Software-defined realization method based on protection and control system for intelligent substation

The application relates to a software-defined realization method based on a protection and control system for an intelligent substation. According to the application, the intelligent substation adopts a centralized modeling manner of directly adding and updating all of a protection, a measurement and control, an exchange and a telecontrol functions in substation configuration descriptions by taking the whole substation as a modeling object, instead of a decentralized modeling manner of sequentially adding a single physical apparatus and then adding functions of each apparatus adopted by a traditional substation. Since SCD files of the intelligent substation are created based on merging unit and intelligent terminal integrated devices and special functions planned by the intelligent substation, and configuration information of each of the special functions is set in the SCD files of the intelligent substation, an aim of defining the special functions of the intelligent substation through software is achieved.

Providing a power system and a method for stabilizing a system, in which the number of generators to be disconnected is reduced to narrow an area influenced by a grid fault in the case where the reliability of the state estimation calculation is judged to be high. The power system stabilizing method applied to a power system configured to include a plurality of feeders including circuit breakers, a plurality of nodes, a plurality of generators, and a plurality of loads, in which method: a protection relay detects a grid fault by using an output from a first sensor installed close to the circuit breaker, thereby opening-controlling the circuit breaker, and the circuit breaker is opening-controlled by a power system stabilization output; a state estimation value of a power system obtained by using the first sensor output and a state detection value, of the power system, containing information associated with measurement time measured in the power system are compared with each other to judge reliability of the state estimation value; the circuit breaker which is to be newly cut off from a viewpoint of power system stability after occurrence of a grid fault at a supposed grid fault point of the power system is stored, and the circuit breaker which is to be cut off every reliability judgment result of the state estimation value is stored; and at the time of occurrence of a grid fault of the power system, a turn-off command for the circuit breaker which is selected in response to the reliability judgment result of the state estimation value so as to be newly cut off is set as the power system stabilization output.

Power quality monitoring in a distribution grid

Example approaches for power quality monitoring in a power distribution grid are described. In an example, monitoring data is received by a communication gateway from a node coupled to it. In an example, there may be multiple nodes in the power distribution grid. Local insights for power quality monitoring may be estimated, based on the monitoring data, using predictive analytics at the communication gateway. The monitoring data and the local insights associated with each of the plurality of nodes is transmitted to the server. Global insights for power quality monitoring may be estimating, using predictive analytics performed at the server, based on the monitoring data and the local insights. An indication to an operator is generated, based on the estimated local insights, global insights and the monitored data, to carry out preventive or corrective action for maintaining the power quality in the power distribution grid.

Transient simulation modeling for dynamic remedial action schemes using real-time protection setting updates

Protective IEDs in an electrical power system, such as distributed controllers, may periodically or in real-time communicate updated protection settings to a wide-area controller, such as a coordination controller, that defines and/or implements a remedial action scheme to protect the electrical power system. The wide-area controller may utilize real-time protection setting information from a plurality of protective IEDs to perform dynamic transient model simulations based on (1) the current topology of the power system, (2) real-time measurements from the system, and (3) the updated, real-time protection settings of various IEDs within the system. The results of the updated transient model simulations may be used to dynamically adjust the remedial actions scheme of the wide-area controller.

Systems and methods for under-frequency blackout protection

Detection of which generators are connected using a common, isolated sub-grid using information from intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) in communication with each generator is disclosed herein. Each IED receives rotor position information from a rotor position detection device of the generator. Each IED may then calculate rotor speed, information of the generator and transmit such information to a central IED. The central IED uses the rotor speed information to determine which generators are connected to a common, isolated sub-grid. The central IED may further use rotor position, rotor speed, and rate-of-change-of-speed information either calculated at the central IED or transmitted from the IEDs.
