Electrical meter for determining a power main of a smart plug
An electrical panel or an electrical meter may provide improved functionality by interacting with a smart plug. A smart plug may provide a smart-plug power monitoring signal that includes information about power consumption of devices connected to the smart plug. The smart-plug power monitoring signal may be used in conjunction with power monitoring signals from the electrical mains of the building for providing information about the operation of devices in the building. For example, the power monitoring signals may be used to (i) determine the main of the house that provides power to the smart plug, (ii) identify devices receiving power from the smart plug, (iii) improve the accuracy of identifying device state changes, and (iv) train mathematical models for identifying devices and device state changes.
Power electronics intelligence at the network edge (PINE)
A device includes an input converter, an output converter, and a controller. The input converter is electrically coupled to an electrical meter and an energy production array. The output converter is electrically coupled to the energy production array and a load. The controller is communicatively coupled to the input converter, the output converter, the energy production array, and the load. The input converter and the output converter are positioned between the electrical meter and the load.
Trapped charge estimation
Systems and methods to estimate trapped charge for a controlled automatic reclose are described herein. For example, an intelligent electronic device (IED) may calculate an analog amount of trapped charge of each phase of a power line based on voltage measurements of the power line. The IED may close a switching device of each phase at a time corresponding to a point-on-wave associated with the analog amount of trapped charge of the respective phase.

Single phase fault isolation and restoration with loop avoidance
Techniques for controlling a power distribution network are provided. An electronic processor receives, a fault indication associated with a fault from a first isolation device of a plurality of isolation devices. The processor identifies a first subset of a plurality of phases associated with the fault indication and a second subset of the plurality of phases not associated with the fault indication. The processor identifies a downstream isolation device downstream of the fault. The processor sends send a first open command to the downstream isolation device for each phase in the first subset. The processor sends a close command to a tie-in isolation device for each of the plurality of phases. The processor sends a second open command to the downstream isolation device for each phase in the second subset. Responsive to identifying a potential loop configuration, the processor sends the second open command prior to the close command.
Single phase fault isolation and restoration with loop avoidance for multiple tie-in devices
A method for controlling a power distribution network includes receiving, via an electronic processor, a fault indication associated with a fault from a first isolation device of a plurality of isolation devices. The processor identifies a first subset of a plurality of phases associated with the fault indication and a second subset not associated with the fault indication. The processor sends a first open command to each member of a set of downstream isolation devices for each phase in the first subset. The processor identifies a plurality of tie-in isolation devices to be closed to restore power. Responsive to identifying a first potential loop configuration, for each of the plurality of tie-in devices, the processor sends a close command to the tie-in isolation device for each of the plurality of phases and sends a second open command to the associated downstream isolation device for each phase in the second subset.
PROCESS BUS-APPLIED PROTECTION SYSTEM
A process bus-applied protection system includes a process bus, a plurality of MUs (merging units), and a plurality of IEDs (intelligent electric devices). Each of the MUs is configured to sample a current and a voltage of a power system at timing synchronized with a time synchronization signal received through the process bus. Each of the IEDs is configured to be capable of outputting the time synchronization signal to the process bus by serving as a transmission source, and receiving, through the process bus, the time synchronization signal from another IED. The plurality of IEDs have a predetermined priority. Each of the IEDs is configured, when the IED does not receive the time synchronization signal from an IED having a higher priority than that of the IED and serving as a transmission source, to output the time synchronization signal to the process bus by serving as a transmission source.
POWER SYSTEM SEQUENCING SCHEME FOR ANY ARBITRARY TOPOLOGY
Systems and apparatuses include a circuit structured to: identify a first source object, a second source object, and a load bus object; determine locations of the first source object, the second source object, and the load bus object on a one-line topology; receive operational parameters of the first source object, the second source object, and the load bus object; define, using the one-line topology, a first route including objects electrically connected between the first source object and the load bus object; define, using the one-line topology, a second route including all objects electrically connected between the second source object and the load bus object; and control operation of the first route and the second route.
PHOTOVOLTAIC DISCONNECT DEVICE FOR STORAGE INTEGRATION
The present disclosure provides a photovoltaic (PV) disconnect device used in an electrical system. The PV disconnect device includes a relay component electrically coupled to a feed circuit of a backup PV power generation system and a connector port electrically coupled to an energy control system. The PV disconnect device includes a sensor circuit to measure at least one of a voltage, a current, and a current frequency of the feed circuit of the backup PV power generation system. The PV disconnect device includes a controller operatively coupled to the relay component, the sensor circuit, and the connector port. The controller receives and processes the voltage, the current, and the current frequency measurements. The controller selectively actuates the relay component based on the processed voltage, current, and current frequency measurements.
FAULT RECOVERY SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ELECTRICAL POWER DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS
Methods and systems for self-healing fault recovery in an electrical power distribution network, particularly distribution networks employing a mesh configuration. When a power source circuit breaker is tripped one or more virtual paths is traced throughout the mesh network, each virtual path originating at the power source that is offline, terminating at an alternate power source, and containing one or two open load switches. A restoration path is chosen from the virtual paths. Power can be transferred to other segments of the mesh network by isolating the fault and closing the open load switch in the chosen restoration path. Some or all of the method and system can be automated.
