ABSORBENT ARTICLE

Disclosed is an absorbent article comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, and an outer cover layer for covering the garment-facing side of the backsheet. The absorbent article has a Thickness Under Compression of from about 2.7 mm to about 4.0 mm. The outer cover layer is formed by a muti-fiber layer nonwoven having a basis weight from about 16gsm to about 35gsm and comprising a garment facing layer and a wearer facing layer. The garment facing layer comprises fibers having a diameter of about 11 .Math.m or less, or from about 7 .Math.m to about 11 .Math.m, and the wearer facing layer comprises fibers having a diameter of about 13 .Math.m or more, or from about 13 .Math.m to about 24 .Math.m. A weight ratio of the garment facing layer is from about 20% to about 70% of the multi-fiber layer nonwoven.

Shaped Nonwoven

A nonwoven fabric. The nonwoven fabric can include a first surface and a second surface and a visually discernible pattern of three-dimensional features on one of the first or second surface. Each of the three-dimensional features can define a microzone comprising a first region and a second region. The first and second regions can have a difference in values for an intensive property, and wherein in at least one of the microzones, the first region is hydrophobic and the second region is hydrophilic.

Soft and Durable Nonwoven Web

A nonwoven web that contains a plurality of fibers formed from a polyolefm composition is provided. The polyolefin composition contains a rigid propylene polymer that has a relatively high melting temperature and modulus of elasticity, which can provide good strength and durability to the nonwoven web. The polyolefm composition also contains a ductile propylene polymer that has a relatively high melt flow index, which can help achieve relatively fine fibers that minimize the stiffness of the web. In addition to a rigid and ductile polymer, the polyolefin composition also contains a slip additive (e.g., fatty acid derivative). Among other things, such an additive can even further enhance the overall softness of the composition.

Fine Hollow Fibers having a High Void Fraction

A hollow fiber that extending along at least a portion of the fiber along a longitudinal axis thereof and is defined by an interior wall is provided. Through selective control over the manner in which it is formed, the present inventors have discovered that the hollow fiber can exhibit a unique combination of a high void fraction and small fiber size that makes it particularly suitable for use in certain applications, such as in nonwoven webs for absorbent articles.

Each of the three-dimensional features can define a microzone comprising a first region and a second region. The first and second regions can have a difference in values for an intensive property, and wherein in at least one of the microzones the first region exhibits a Contact Angle of greater than 90 degrees, as measured by the Contact Angle Test Method detailed herein.

Each of the three-dimensional features can define a microzone comprising a first region and a second region. The first and second regions can have a difference in values for an intensive property, wherein at least one of the surfaces has a TS7 value of less than about 15 dB V.sup.2 rms, and wherein the first surface has a TS7 value that is higher than the second surface TS7 value.

MULTI-PIECE ABSORBENT ARTICLE

An absorbent article includes an absorbent insert comprising a topsheet, a backsheet, and an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and backsheet. The backsheet comprising a nonwoven joined to a film and a backsheet film-to-nonwoven peel strength measured in N/cm in an engagement region. The absorbent article also includes an outer cover and a fastening system capable of joining the absorbent insert to the outer cover. In an engaged configuration, the article comprises an insert-outer cover peel strength measured in N/cm in the engagement region; and the backsheet film-to-nonwoven peel strength is greater than the insert-outer cover peel strength.
