Disposable wearable absorbent article

A disposable wearable absorbent article comprises a chassis having an absorbent core and first and second side panels extending transversally outwards towards respective outer edges. Each of the first and second side panels comprises a mechanical fastening material affixed to an outer end portion of the panel whereby, in use, the first and second side panels can extend around a user's waist to couple the first and second side panels to the chassis. Each of the side panels is gathered in a longitudinal direction to form at least one pleat extending in the transverse direction, and comprises a binding material affixed to respective side panels to maintain each of the first and second side panels in a gathered configuration. A method for forming disposable wearable absorbent articles is also disclosed.

The absorbent article is formed of several layers including a moisture-impervious outer layer, an inner layer substantially co-extensive with the outer layer, and a filler interposed between the inner layer and the outer layer.

A multi-piece diapering system is based on a removable, disposable absorbent channel insert diaper having hydrophobic interior leg gathers and a water impermeable backer, but without waist tabs or bands or elastic to secure the channel to the user and optionally without leg cuffs. The absorbent channel insert may be used in a single-use disposable diaper to allow such disposable diaper to be re-used multiple times by replacing the channel insert diaper when soiled. The absorbent channel insert diaper may also be used with underwear as the supporting shell, or with other exterior diaper shells or base layer diapers.

The first bond density is greater than the second bond density.

Fastening systems comprising nonwoven substrates with hooks formed integrally thereon

A wearable article includes hook-and-loop fastening components. The hook-and-loop fastening components have a section of nonwoven web material on which an array of hooks is formed. At least some of the hooks may be integrally formed from the nonwoven material. The section of nonwoven web material may also include a section of loops material, wherein at least some of the loops may be integrally formed from the web material. The section of loops material may have a machine direction dimension of at least 20 mm and a cross direction dimension of at least 20 mm, and a surface area of at least 314 mm.sup.2. The article may further include an identifiable linear path, the identifiable linear path having a width greater than 2 mm and forming an angle with the machine direction of 45 degrees or less. Any such identifiable path at least partially overlies the loops-forming bond(s), at a plurality of locations along the identifiable linear path.

The absorbent flap extends along substantially an entire width of the front panel of the diaper to catch wetness along the entire frontal width and is preferably shaped to avoid irritation with the baby's legs.

The garment surface may be softened by application of a source of energy, wherein the source of energy comprises at least two sonotrodes mounted in a rotary drum. At least some of the softened garment surface is positioned into at least one opening of the plurality of openings.
