A composition and medical implant made therefrom, the composition including a thick diffusion hardened zone, and preferably further including a ceramic layer. Also provided are orthopedic implants made from the composition, methods of making the composition, and methods of making orthopedic implants from the composition.

Orthopaedic implants having self-lubricated articulating surfaces designed to reduce wear, corrosion, and ion leaching

An orthopaedic implant can replace a joint in a patient. The orthopaedic implant includes a first component having a first component surface and a second component having a second component surface. The first component surface and the second component surface mate at an interface. The first component surface includes a metal substrate, a nanotextured surface, a ceramic coating, and a transition zone. The nanotextured surface is disposed directly upon the metal substrate and has surface features in a size of 10.sup.9 meters. The ceramic coating conforms to the nanotextured surface and includes a plurality of bio-active sites configured to attract and retain calcium and phosphorous cations. The transition zone is disposed between the metal substrate and the ceramic coating. The transition zone includes a concentration gradient transitioning from the metal substrate to the ceramic coating and there is no distinct interface between the metal substrate and the ceramic coating.

Magnetic Intervertebral Disc Replacement Devices and Methods Thereof

An intervertebral disc replacement device comprising a superior plate and an inferior plate, in which each plate contains one or more embedded magnets. The one or more magnets in the superior plate and the one or more magnet in the inferior plate are oriented such that a magnetic force exists between the one or more magnets in the superior plate and the one or more magnet in the inferior plate. In addition, an intervertebral disc replacement device comprising a superior plate and an inferior plate, in which each plate contains one or more embedded magnets, and the plates are designed to form an articulating surface. Further, an intervertebral disc replacement device comprising a superior plate, an inferior plate, and a spacer, in which each plate contains one or more embedded magnets, and the superior and inferior plates are designed to form articulating surfaces with the spacer.

MEDICAL VALVE IMPLANT FOR IMPLANTATION IN AN ANIMAL BODY AND/OR HUMAN BODY

A medical valve implant includes an implant structure fastened to a base body. The base body has cells that extend in a circumferential direction of a valve implant. An end section bulges in a curved shape outwardly in a radial direction of the base body. The end section has a larger diameter than an axially adjacent collar portion of the base body. A collar includes a first cell structure provided to form, in an intended end state, an intended inner cross-section of the base body that is matched to an intended outer cross section of the implant structure. A holding device extends axially from and beyond the cells. The holding device includes a leg directly connected to a terminal end of one of the cells and a head at an opposite end of the leg. One or both of the leg and the head is canted radially inward toward a geometric center of the base body.

MODIFIED SURFACES FOR ATTACHMENT OF BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS

The invention relates to bioactive surface coatings deposited on selected substrates. Surface nanostructured film coatings deposited on most metal or nonmetal substrates to provide surfaces can be engineered to promote enhanced tissue/cell adhesion. Attached cells, including osteoblasts, fibroblasts and endothelial cells, retain viability and will readily differentiate and proliferate under appropriate conditions. Fibroblasts and endothelial cells exhibit good attachment and growth on most coated substrates, except on nano surfaced structured silicone.

UNITARY SPINAL DISC IMPLANT
20190358053 · 2019-11-28 ·

A unitary intervertebral device, having no moving components is provided for non-fusion articulation and fusion applications. The interbody articulating device allows for limited flexion and rotation between the implant and an adjacent vertebrae, helping to preserve or restore near-normal motion between adjacent vertebrae. Rotational motion is achieved through one or more protrusions incorporated into the spinal interbody device. In one articulating form, a first protrusion extends perpendicularly from one bearing surface of the interbody device to form a rotational protrusion, while at least a second protrusion extends from the opposite bearing surface of the interbody device to form a non-rotational protrusion. In another form, a single protrusion extends axially from one bearing surface of the interbody device to form a spike or anchoring, rotating protrusion, while the opposite bearing surface may be slightly rounded and/or comprising a bone-ingrowth promoting surface. Similarly configured fusion salvage devices are also described.

A medical valve implant having a medical heart valve fastened to a base body, the base body having a circumferential arrangement of cells with a proximal end and a distal end to provide inflow and outflow sections when implanted, where some of the cells at the distal end are connected to holding devices that cant inward. Within the cells can be smaller cells having two halves configured for outward movement relative to the larger surrounding cell.
