Orthopedic implant
10646348 · 2020-05-12 · ·

An orthopedic implant in the form of a femoral component of a knee endoprosthesis has sliding tribological surfaces formed by inserts of a ceramic material based on zirconium dioxide or aluminum oxide, which are inserted and transition flushly into a metallic base body. The inserts are connected to the base body by a silicate ceramic solder, which is solidified or hardened in a ceramic firing, and by a silicate glass solder. Discharge channels in the metallic base body help to produce a homogeneous glass solder layer and to avoid an excessively intense heat treatment of the solder connection, which could lead to fractures in the titanium oxide layer of the base body. Because a coating of a softer glass solder may be additionally provided on the sliding tribological surfaces of the inserts, the abrasive wear is further reduced and the service life is further increased.

The invention relates to a total prosthesis for the shoulder joint. It is of the socalled reverse type with a concave component in the humerus and a convex component on the scapula.

NOVEL DESIGN FOR A JOINT IMPLANT
20200129298 · 2020-04-30 ·

The present disclosure relates generally to the field of mammalian prosthetics, and more specifically to prostheses for use in total or partial joint replacement, and to a method of use of these prostheses in arthroplasty. Thus, disclosed is a prosthesis for use in hip arthroplasty that comprises an artificial femoral head that includes a head portion constructed totally or partially of a polymeric material, and a connector means designed to connect said head portion in a non-articulating manner to a femoral stem portion. The head portion may be made solely of solid polymeric material or of an outer shell of polymeric material connected in a non-articulating manner to an embedded core. The polymeric material is preferably selected from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) or radiation treated UHMWPE having substantially no detectable free radicals. The embedded core comprises, for example, one or more of solid non-polymeric material (e.g., metallic, ceramic, or ceramic-on-metal material), a multiplicity of metallic spokes, a metallic scaffolding, and/or combinations thereof.

Zero profile spinal fusion cage

An interbody fusion cage having upper and lower canals for receiving the heads of bone screws that have been pre-installed in opposing vertebral body endplates. The proximal wall of the cage preferably has a vertical slot that communicates with each canal and is adapted to allow access by a screwdriver and tightening of the screws.

Ceramic Sliding Bearing
20200061238 · 2020-02-27 ·

Disclosed is a ceramic sliding partner for a sliding bearing, said sliding partner being made at least in part, preferably entirely, of a ceramic foam. The ceramic sliding partner comprises at least one sliding surface on which a sliding partner can move, said sliding surface being made at least in part, preferably entirely, of a ceramic foam.

System for Articular Surface Replacement
20200046383 · 2020-02-13 ·

A system for replacing a portion of an articular surface including providing an implant site and installing an implant into the implant site. The implant site includes a first and a second excision site which at least partially intersect with one another. Each of the first and second excision sites are formed by providing a respective axis and excising a portion of the articular surface relative to the respective axes.

An orthopedic implant in the form of a hip joint endoprosthesis includes a ceramic head set onto an anchoring shaft, which is configured and adapted to be inserted and anchored into a bone. The head has an inner blind recess. The anchoring shaft has a tenon. A metallic sleeve having an approximately central through-bore is soldered into the recess of the head. The tenon of the anchoring shaft is inserted and secured in the bore of the sleeve. The head is made of a ceramic based on zirconium dioxide, aluminum oxide or a mixed ceramic, while the sleeve is made of a high strength titanium material. A connection between the head and the sleeve is produced by a silicate ceramic solder that solidifies or hardens in a ceramic firing, and by a subsequently applied glass solder, of which the excess can exit from the recess via the through-bore into a hollow space existing between the sleeve and the tenon.

Expandable interbody device

An expandable interbody device for placement between adjacent vertebrae having an upper structure, a lower structure and a screw mechanism, wherein actuation of the screw mechanism moves the upper and lower structures between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration. A deployment tool couples to the expandable interbody device for positioning the device between adjacent vertebrae, actuating the screw mechanism and delivering a material to a chamber of the expandable interbody device.

Modular interbody fusion device

A modular anterior lumbar interbody fusion device comprises a monolithic interbody fusion cage and a modular plate resiliently attached thereto. The cage includes an open architecture with top and bottom cross members and a pair of opposing arms projecting from respective side structures of the cage to define a pocket at the cage anterior end. The modular plate is received in the pocket and attached to the cage by resilient latches. The plate lies fully within the profile of the cage with the resilient latches lying fully within the thickness of the plate. The plate provides a structure to close the anterior portion of the modular cage after introduction of bone graft material while allowing for use with integrated fixation. Attachment features between the monolithic cage and modular plate are universal allowing for selection of various modular device configurations with minimal components.

An expandable implant device for implantation at a surgical site is provided. The implant device is made of cortical bone and includes a top and bottom piece, both pieces configured to couple with each other. The top piece has superior and inferior surfaces, and at least a tapered leading end configured to distract open an intervertebral disc space so that the top piece can be slidably inserted over the bottom piece until a desired overlap is achieved. A composite interbody bone implant device is also provided including a body skeleton having a non-bone composition, such as a polymer, formed into a shape and including one or more cavities which can be filled with other material, for example, allograft material. A method of placing an expandable device into a disc space is also provided.
