MOTION ASSISTANCE SYSTEM FOR WHEELCHAIRS
20180078432 · 2018-03-22 ·

The presently disclosure describes a motion assistance system for a wheelchair, for example, a powered drive wheel system that can continually drive a wheelchair in a circular or elliptical path. The motion assistance system comprises a mounting mechanism attachable to one or more structural elements of the wheelchair, and a drive linkage pivotable with respect to the mounting mechanism. A drive wheel can be mounted to an end of the drive linkage such that the drive wheel contacts the ground when installed on the wheelchair. The drive wheel comprises a plurality of lateral rollers positioned radially about the circumference of the power drive wheel. The lateral rollers can rotate about an axis tangential to the circumference of the drive wheel in order to facilitate driving the wheelchair in a radial direction.

PROPULSION ATTACHMENT FOR A MANUAL WHEELCHAIR
20180028378 · 2018-02-01 ·

This relates to a propulsion attachment for a manual wheelchair and methods of operation. The propulsion attachment can include three wheels, a motor, a gearbox, and a handlebar. The propulsion attachment can attach to the footrest of the wheelchair using a pin. The motor can be located in the rear side of the propulsion attachment and can push the user in a forward direction. Alternatively, the user can manipulate a switch located on the handlebar to allow the propulsion attachment to pull the user in a reverse direction. The propulsion attachment can include a plurality of brakes, where each brake can control one of the wheels. Additionally, the propulsion attachment can operate at variable speeds using the motor and the power from one or both batteries.

RECLINING TRANSPORT CHAIRS

A transport chair is provided that includes a base frame, a seat assembly pivotally mounted to the base, and a footrest assembly pivotally mounted to the base frame, the footrest assembly being associated with the seat assembly so as to pivot in unison with the seat assembly until the seat assembly is pivoted forward to an extent at which the footrest assembly contacts the floor or ground, at which point the footrest assembly does not pivot further upon further forward pivoting of the seat assembly. Further embodiments of the transport chair allow the seat assembly to recline, alone or in unison with a leg rest assembly, while the footrest remains in position.

All-terrain wheelchair

An all-terrain wheelchair includes a rigid and easy-to-assemble frame. The frame has a seating area with armrests toward the rear of the frame and an adjustable footrest area toward the front of the frame. Attached to the rear axle of the frame and outside the seating area are found two large rear wheels of a sufficient width to provide flotation over soft surfaces. Attached to the front axle of the frame in front of the footrest area is a single large wheel of a sufficient width to provide flotation over soft surfaces. An ergonomically designed push handle is found at the upper rear of the frame behind the seating area, which allows an assistant to propel the chair forward or pull it backward. The frame in front of the front wheel forms a pull handle, which allows an assistant to pull the chair forward or push it backward. A locking brake mechanism is attached to the rear axle to prevent a rear wheel from travel and render the wheelchair motionless when necessary.

Rear steer portable wheelchair

The present invention relates to improvements in the design of a rear-steer collapsible, in particular the invention relates to a number of safety enhancing features that provide a safer and more versatile rear steer portable wheelchair.
