A non-restraining collar can include a unitary pillow having extending from a collar body first and second collar straps that extend opposite one another and terminate in respective distal ends separated by a space having a first distance in a relaxed state. The non-restraining collar can also include an elastically deformable spring member embedded in the unitary pillow, the elastically deformable spring member having portions extending into both of the first and second collar straps. The elastically deformable spring member can be deformed such that the first distance is increased to a second distance.

An accessory detection apparatus for a modular medical device includes a support portion and at least one support accessory in connection with the support portion via a connection interface. The connection interface is configured to support the at least one support accessory extending from the support portion. The accessory detection apparatus includes at least one detection device in connection with a first portion of the connection interface and at least one identifier element in connection with a second portion of the connection interface. The apparatus further includes a controller in communication with the at least one detection device. The controller is configured to process at least one signal communicated from the at least one detection device and detect an identifier of at least one support accessory in response to the at least one signal.

A cover assembly for a patient support including a top portion with the top portion defining a patient support surface and a sealing surface opposite the patient support surface. The cover assembly further includes a bottom portion defining a plurality of open face chambers with each open face chamber including a floor and a plurality of walls extending from the floor towards the top portion. Each open face chamber is connected to, and integral with, at least one additional open face chamber by a hinge. The sealing surface of the top portion covers the open face chambers and is coupled to the bottom portion at each hinge.

A patient support mattress generally comprises one or more air segments/air cells/air sections/air bladders in a head portion of the patient support mattress and a selective air control mechanism connected to one or more adjacent individual air segments supporting a head portion of a body of a patient. The one or more adjacent individual air segments are located at the head portion of the patient support mattress. The selective air control mechanism selectively deflates and/or inflates the one or more adjacent individual air segments of the plurality of air segments.

A neck collar can include a unitary foam pillow having extending from a first side first and second collar straps that extend opposite one another and terminate in respective distal ends separated by a space having a first distance in a relaxed state. The neck collar can also include an elastically deformable spring member embedded in the unitary foam pillow, the elastically deformable spring member being generally C-shaped in the relaxed state and having portions extending into both of the first and second collar straps. The elastically deformable spring member can be deformed such that the first distance is increased to a second distance.

An apparatus and method for training muscle strength and mobility in the neck provides a dynamic resting position without pressure on the neck, of a person when in lying position. The apparatus includes a base element, a head support suspended floating above the base element, and a neck support rising from the base element. The neck support provides a fulcrum that defines head movement to a pivoting motion about a first axis (X) which runs sideways substantially along the shoulder line of the body, a pivot connection between the head support and the base element defines head movement to a pivoting motion about a second axis (Y) transversely to the first axis, and by its floating suspension the head support defines head movement to a pivoting motion about a third axis (Z) running in the longitudinal direction of the neck and body.

In one aspect, an apparatus for supporting the head and neck of a user for airway management is disclosed, which comprises a top surface including at least one head-receiving portion configured and dimensioned for receiving and supporting a user's head, and at least one recess neck opening for supporting a user's neck when the user's head is received in the head-receiving portion. The apparatus further includes at least one chin support protruding above the top surface and configured for facilitating placing the user in a sniff position when the user's head is received in the head-receiving portion. Embodiments of an apparatus for supporting the neck and head of a user for airway management are described. The apparatus can include a base support section, which can rest on a supporting surface, a front side, two opposing sides and a back side with the base support section being dimensioned between about 25-26 inches in width, between about 16-17 inches in depth and about 6 inches in height with a separate and removable and replaceable head/neck support section.
