Flexible electrical connection of an LED-based illumination device to a light fixture
An electrical interface module (EIM) is provided between an LED illumination device and a light fixture. The EIM includes an arrangement of contacts that are adapted to be coupled to an LED illumination device and a second arrangement of contacts that are adapted to be coupled to the light fixture and may include a power converter. Additionally, an LED selection module may be included to selectively turn on or off LEDs. A communication port may be included to transmit information associated with the LED illumination device, such as identification, indication of lifetime, flux, etc. The lifetime of the LED illumination device may be measured and communicated, e.g., by an RF signal, IR signal, wired signal or by controlling the light output of the LED illumination device. An optic that is replaceably mounted to the LED illumination device may include, e.g., a flux sensor that is connected to the electrical interface.
Light module
An LED array is mounted on a base that is thermally coupled to a heat spreader. At least one aperture is provided between the support area and an edge of the heat spreader. The heat spreader may be coupled to a thermal pad which has sufficient thermal conductivity and is sufficiently thin to allow the thermal resistivity between the heat spreader and a corresponding heat sink to be below a predetermined value.

Control of illumination devices using DC-DC converters
In an embodiment, method of controlling an illumination device by an output signal of a DC-DC converter is disclosed. The output signal is controlled by a PWM signal. The method includes receiving a feedback signal corresponding to variation in the output signal with respect to a pre-determined output signal, and determining a target duty cycle of the PWM signal based on the feedback signal. The PWM signal of the target duty cycle is capable of enabling the DC-DC converter to generate the pre-determined output signal. The method includes providing the PWM signal of an effective duty cycle equal to the target duty cycle over N switching pulses of the PWM signal to the DC-DC converter. The method provides the PWM signal by providing M switching pulses of a first PWM signal of a first duty cycle, and N−M switching pulses of a second PWM signal of a second duty cycle.
Adjustable light for underwater photography
An underwater diving light includes efficient cooling of LEDs and other internal electronics by heat transfer to ambient water. The water is in contact with a metallic face plate or puck that conducts heat via contiguous metal from an LED circuit board or LED face plate. Ambient water can enter the assembly to spaces between the face plate and an intermediary plate at the front of a housing to efficiently cool the LEDs and associated electronics. In a high-output form the light can emit 8000 lumens, and in this embodiment the battery is cooled by ambient water. The face plate or puck is interchangeable, for different lighting characteristics.

A lighting system comprises at least one excitation source (5), preferably an LED, operable to generate and radiate excitation radiation of a first wavelength (λ.sub.1); a shade (4) configured to at least in part surround the at least one source (5) and remotely located thereto; and at least one phosphor (16) provided in or on at least a part of the shade (4), wherein the phosphor (16) emits radiation of a different wavelength in response to incident excitation radiation. HIGH INTENSITY REPLACEABLE LIGHT EMITTING DIODE MODULE AND ARRAY
A light fixture, comprising a matrix, a plurality of electrical sockets fixedly secured to the matrix and forming a rigid matrix of electrical sockets electrically interconnected in two dimensions. One or more light emitting diode modules are individually removable and replaceable within any individual electrical socket within the matrix. Each individual light emitting diode module includes a base and a light emitting diode, wherein the base is configured and arranged for fitted electrical engagement within the electrical socket.
