PATIENT SUPPORT APPARATUS WITH STABILIZATION

A patient support apparatus includes a base, a seat supported by the base and a backrest pivotable between an upright position and a reclined position. In one embodiment, a backrest support member is coupled to the backrest and is adapted to move between a stowed position in which the backrest support member does not support the backrest and a deployed position in which the backrest support member does support the backrest. Movement to the deployed position occurs in response to activation of an emergency control. In other embodiments, the base includes a portion that moves into an extended position underneath the backrest when the backrest is in the reclined position. Movement of the base portion to the extended position also occurs in response to activation of an emergency control.

Patient positioning support structure with trunk translator

A patient support structure includes a pair of independently height-adjustable supports, each connected to a patient support. The supports may be independently raised, lowered, rolled or tilted about a longitudinal axis, laterally shifted and angled upwardly or downwardly. Position sensors are provided to sense all of the foregoing movements. The sensors communicate data to a computer for coordinated adjustment and maintenance of the inboard ends of the patient supports in an approximated position during such movements. A longitudinal translator provides for compensation in the length of the structure when the supports are angled upwardly or downwardly. A patient trunk translator provides coordinated translational movement of the patient's upper body along the respective patient support in a caudad or cephalad direction as the patient supports are angled upwardly or downwardly for maintaining proper spinal biomechanics and avoiding undue spinal traction or compression.

Support device in form of a pad, mainly for use onto a medical bed

A support device for use on a fixed or mobile medical bed is disclosed. The device includes: a mattress element, configured to receive on it the body of a subject in a lying position and for this purpose presenting a flat conformation with a longitudinal dimension (L) prevalent with respect to a transversal dimension (T); fixing means of the mattress element to the support structure, arranged in correspondence with a portion of the longitudinal margin of said mattress element and connected or connectable to the latter. The fixing means have a continuously or discreetly adjustable position (P) along the longitudinal margin portion of the mattress element.

Method of securing a patient onto an operating table when the patient is in the trendelenburg position and apparatus therefor including a kit

A method of securing a patient onto an operating table when the patient is in the Trendelenburg position and apparatus therefor including a kit. A viscoelastic pad is used to support and hold a patient on a medical procedure table during a medical procedure performed while the table, and thus the patient lying thereon, is in an inclined position, such as the Trendelenburg position. The viscoelastic pad has characteristics which promote a minimization of pressure forces on the patient's body, as well as promote a secure cushioning and holding of the patient in a desired position on the table, in order to minimize injury to the patient.

A system and method are disclosed for positioning a patient on an operating table. The patient positioning system includes a positioning pad having a body formed from a compressible material, a first end and a second end. The body has a thickness which increases from the first end of the positioning pad to the second end of the positioning pad. A plurality of tethers may be fixedly secured to the body. Each of the tethers may include a fastening member adapted to secure the body to an operating table. The positioning pad may include a perforated section to mirror a perineal cutout of an operating table.
