Surgical frame having translating lower beam and method for use thereof

A surgical frame and method for use thereof is provided. The surgical frame is capable of reconfiguration before, during, or after surgery. The surgical frame includes a translating beam that is moveable between at least a first lateral position and a second lateral position. The translating beam is used to join a first support portion and a second support portion of the surgical frame to one another, and movement of the translating beam affords access to a patient receiving area.

A lateral arm support device configured to support and anteriorly extend the arms of a patient away from the torso during a medical procedure. The lateral arm support device includes spaced apart panels, one forming a superior panel and the other forming an inferior panel, an upper arm support surface extending between the upper sides of the superior and inferior panels, and a lower arm support surface extending between the lower sides of the superior and inferior panels. The panels have shapes that define an anterior cutout extending from the anterior side of the lateral arm support towards the posterior side of the lateral arm support, beneficially allowing increased visualization and access to the lower arm of a patient. The lateral arm support device can be part of a patient positioning system configured to position a patient in a lateral decubitus position.

The extension can include one or more friction enhancing elements.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CONCOMITANT MEDICAL PROCEDURES

Systems and methods for performing concomitant medical procedures are disclosed. In one aspect, the method involves controlling a first robotic arm to insert a first medical instrument through a first opening of a patient and controlling a second robotic arm to insert a second medical instrument through a second opening of the patient. The first robotic arm and the second robotic arm are part of a first platform and the first opening and the second opening are positioned at two different anatomical regions of the patient.
