Crutch and sitting device
12121491 · 2024-10-22 ·

Devices for improvement of the basic crutch, cane, and ambulatory aids to provide needed support to ameliorate potential injuries and improve ambulation for persons suffering from injured lower limbs, lumbar region or other injuries, and who frequently require using crutches for mobility. Normally, the conventional crutches require more energy from the user than merely walking, and frequently, a crutch user may require rest. Prior crutch systems have not provided a convenient way to provide the user with such rest. Also, we show crutch support in sitting position that works as a simple and handy decompression system for herniated or bulged discs and injured/weak back muscles. An integrated crutch and walker system is described.

Modular walking cane providing wrist support and stability
20240358128 · 2024-10-31 ·

A walking cane having an overall Y-shape with each of a handle and wrist support extending away from connection with a vertical ground engaging shaft of the cane at an angle. The walking cane provides enhanced comfort, support, stability, and versatility to users. A Y-shaped upper portion with an ergonomic handle portion encourages proper height setting, provides wrist support, promotes a natural grip, and reduces hand and wrist strain. Magnetic clips located on each cane allow it to be securely snapped to another cane for easy storage and transport. Using two canes in tandem further provides bilateral support. The cane's upper portion angle is based on the angle of an individual in a neutral standing position so that, during use, the cane mirrors the user's leg angle to promote a more proper and natural gait. An integrated height adjustment mechanism allows for user customization. The cane also features lightweight and durable construction, with a non-slip rubber tip for added stability and safety. The cane may be modular in nature to allow for individual customization with an upper portion removably secured to the lower portion support leg.

ORTHOTIC DEVICE
20180125739 · 2018-05-10 ·

An orthotic device for assisting a user in walking includes an underarm support assembly configured to support a user's weight without damage to their nerves, and upright support pivotally connected to the underarm support assembly and a ground engaging assembly pivotally connected to the upright support. In one embodiment, the underarm support assembly is spring biased relative to the upright support to bias the upright support to an orientation substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal dimension of the underarm support. The ground engaging assembly is also biased to bias the ground engaging assembly to a position perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the upright support while allowing the ground engaging assembly to pivot about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal dimension of the upright support and about an axis parallel to the longitudinal dimension of the upright support.

Walking Stick with S-Shaped Flexure Mechanism to Store and Release Energy
20180055163 · 2018-03-01 ·

A walking stick that takes inspiration from nature to absorb energy in the downward first motion of a walking stride and then return the stored energy to aid in propelling the walker forward in the final forward motion of the walking stride all the while keeping the walker in an ergonomically correct position which minimizes discomfort and reduces wasted energy. The walking stick that is the subject of this patent application utilizes a dual flexure spring configured in an S-shape (hereafter referred to as an S-flexure spring) as an extension of the straight shaft of the stick. The shape and location of the S-flexure spring are such that the spring force helps propel the walker forward.
