An embodiment includes a walking stick. The walking stick includes a rod assembly, a water purification assembly, and a manual pump. The rod assembly extends from a first end to a second end that is opposite the first end along a longitudinal direction of the rod assembly. The rod assembly includes at least one rod portion. The water purification assembly is integrated with the rod assembly. The manual pump is configured to impose a pressure gradient in the water purification assembly. The manual pump includes a plunger that is physically coupled to a handle portion. Motion of the plunger relative to the water purification assembly draws water into an inlet tube that is positioned in the rod portion and through the water purification assembly. The motion of the plunger results from translation of the handle portion in substantially the longitudinal direction of the rod assembly.

Respective ones of the weighted cylinders is attachable to the walking stick to adjust the weight of the walking stick to accommodate a preference of a user. A sleeve is attachable to the walking stick or the weighted cylinder that is attached to the walking stick for gripping. A light emitter is coupled to the sleeve to emit light outwardly therefrom when the light emitter is turned on thereby making the user visible to other individuals.

The assisted walking devices include features for controlled limitation of lateral gait movement that occurs in natural lateral walking gait motion.

Systems and methods for transitioning a portable weather canopy between at least two states are described, where a first state provides flexible shaft portions that can be worn on a user's body or wrapped about an object and a second state reversibly couples the flexible shaft portions to provide a rigid shaft to support the canopy. In an aspect, a collapsible, portable weather canopy includes, but is not limited to, a foldable canopy; and a collapsible shaft coupled to the foldable canopy.

Systems and methods for transitioning a portable weather canopy between at least two states are described, where a first state provides flexible shaft portions that can be worn on a user's body or wrapped about an object and a second state reversibly couples the flexible shaft portions to provide a rigid shaft to support the canopy. In an aspect, a collapsible, portable weather canopy includes, but is not limited to, a foldable canopy; and a collapsible shaft coupled to the foldable canopy.

Embodiments described herein relate generally to apparatuses and methods relating to mobility assist devices including, for example, walking canes. In some embodiments, a mobility assist device can include a wrist stabilizer and one or more exercising elements for enabling a user to perform torsion, rotation, grip, and/or other exercises.
