Compression device especially for preventing deep vein thrombosis

A compression device particularly suited for DVT prophylaxis includes a disposable wrap and a re-usable controller removably mounted on the wrap to apply a tensioning force to the wrap when it is encircling the limb of a patient. The wrap includes an RF chip with a unique identifier and the controller includes an RF sensor and processor to authenticate the wrap before commencing a compression cycle. A kiosk is provided for storing a plurality of wraps for use by patients and a plurality of controllers to be used with any of the wraps. The processor of each controller can control an electric motor in the controller to tighten and loosen the wrap according to a three-stage DVT prophylaxis protocol that produces an optimum blood flow velocity. An accelerometer and software/firmware in the controller can also measure and summarize patient activity while wearing the device.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR EXERTING FORCE ON BODIES
20210346235 · 2021-11-11 ·

Systems and methods for exerting forces on a body, including a support structure defining a space and a plurality of surface contacting units that are configured to exert force upon the body, such that the weight is distributed away from the primary weight bearing regions to non-weight bearing regions of the body, or vice versa, without exerting significant shear or frictional forces on surfaces of the body. The systems and methods may be used to exert forces to cause fluid shift in different compartments of the body. Applications include treatment of various disease conditions including pressure ulcers, heart failure, high blood pressure, preeclampsia, osteoporosis, injuries of spine and to slow microgravity-induced bone and muscle loss. The systems and methods may be used to simulate gravity, weightlessness or buoyancy, in rehabilitation medicine. The system may include a chair, bed, a wearable suit or an exoskeleton.

Cooling compression sleeve

A cooling compression sleeve device generally including three layers, a flexible bottom layer, a flexible middle layer, and a flexible top layer, and two voids, the first void substantially filled with a cooling agent and the second void including a selectively inflatable air bladder, which in its preferred form is portable, cleanable, reusable, and useful to provide cooling therapy to the limbs of humans or animals and particularly to the knee, shoulder, and elbow joints.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR APPLYING PRESSURE TO A MAMMALIAN LIMB
20230277388 · 2023-09-07 ·

A therapeutic pressure band for applying pressure across a muscle or muscle groups on a mammalian limb is described. The band is particularly well suited for treating “shin splints.” The band includes a plurality of straps that are connected together via a connecting material. Ends of each of the straps have adjustable fasteners for securing and tightening the band around a limb. The band also possesses a plurality of pressure members (e.g., elongated rubber tubes) that apply separate and discrete areas or points of pressure in a line across a muscle, tendon, bone, or muscle group and generally perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the limb.

INFLATABLE COMPRESSION SLEEVE
20220287908 · 2022-09-15 ·

An inflatable compression sleeve comprises a plurality of consecutive inflatable pressure cells and a breathing chamber associated with at least one pair of adjacent pressure cells, configured to contain air therein. The breathing chamber is configured to be in fluid communication with an exterior of the sleeve via each of inner and outer surfaces of the sleeve. When the volume of the breathing chamber is decreased from as a result of the adjacent pressure cells being brought into the inflated configuration, air from the breathing chamber is expelled to the exterior of the sleeve via the inner surface, and when the volume of the breathing chamber is increased as a result of the adjacent air cells being brought into the deflated configuration thereof, air is drawn into the breathing chamber from the exterior of the sleeve via the outer surface.

PROPHYLACTIC AND INTIMACY AID DEVICE
20220096316 · 2022-03-31 ·

A multi-purpose wearable prophylactic and intimacy aid device made of a material mimicking human flesh, used during a sexual relationship having different purposes such as but not exclusive to providing, independently or in combination with a body part of the wearer at least one entryway to receive a means of penetration, reducing skin to skin contact to decrease the risk of STDs, and enhancing the size and shape of parts of the body of the wearer.

The amount of movement of the wrap changes as the patient's physiology changes while maintaining the pre-tension and maximum compression forces.

Intelligent compression wrap

An intelligent compression device for controllable compression. The compression device includes a compressible body and a microprocessor. The compressible body encircles a limb of a user and includes an elastomer layer and an activation layer. The elastomer layer includes voxelated liquid crystal elastomers that contract in response to a stimulus. The activation element, which is positioned proximate to the elastomer layer, supplies the stimulus. The microprocessor actuates at least a portion of the activation element layer.
