Provided are polyglyceryl compositions comprising one or more polyglyceryl compounds having: (a) a node structure comprising at least three contiguous glyceryl remnant units; (b) one or more cationic groups each linked to the node structure by an independently selected linking group; and (c) one or more hydrophobic moieties each independently (i) linked to the node structure by a linking group, or (ii) constituting a portion of one of the one or more cationic groups, wherein the composition has an average degree of polymerization determined by hydroxyl value testing (DP.sub.OH) of from about 3 to about 20. Also provided are polyglyceryl compounds which may compose such compositions, and uses of the polyglyceryl compositions and compounds.

A composition for coloring and shampooing hair substantially free, preferably totally and completely free, of anionic surfactants, comprising at least one cationic dye, n-methyl alkyl glucamide with a carbon chain length from 8 and 20, inclusive, preferably 8 and 10, an aqueous carrier, and at least one stabilizer of anti-oxidant and free radical scavanger. By weight, (based on the total weight of the composition), the composition comprises 0.0005% to 3.0% cationic dye, 2.5 to 30% n-methyl alkyl glucamide, 30 to 70% water, and 0.01 to 0.5% stabilizers of anti-oxidant and free radical scavenger. The present invention relates to hair cleaning compositions containing at least one cationic dye, a nonionic or amphoteric surfactant, a fragrance, and a stabilizer (antioxidant).

The invention also relates to a process for cleansing keratin materials, which consists in applying the said composition to the said keratin materials, in working it into a foam and then in rinsing off the said composition, as well as the cosmetic use of the composition as defined above, for removing makeup and/or cleansing the skin, the hair and/or mucous membranes, or for skincare.
