A method of reducing the appearance of hyperpigmented skin is disclosed. The method can include topically applying to hyperpigmented skin a composition comprising an aqueous and/or glycerin extract of Rhododendron ferrugineum leaf to reduce melanocyte pigmentation in the skin.

Disclosed is a topical composition comprising: (i) an antimicrobial active which is at least one of hydroxamic acids or hydroxamic acid derivatives; and (ii) an atractylenolide compound; wherein weight ratio of the amount of said atractylenolide compound to that of said antimicrobial active is at least 5:1. Provided is a polyurethane gel composition containing A and B below. The polyurethane gel composition of the present invention is particularly useful as a raw material for cosmetics since a film of an oil-soluble gel obtained using the polyurethane gel composition is exceptionally excellent in any point of transparency, high gloss, elasticity, and resilience.
