COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR INHIBITION AND INTERRUPTION OF BIOFILM FORMATION
Compositions and methods for inhibiting and interrupting biofilm formation, and for destabilizing established biofilms are provided, the novel compositions including polymeric resins and monomeric non-polymerizable and polymerizable resins. More particularly, the compositions and methods enable the protection and removal of biofilms from surfaces in the context of medical, consumer, domestic, food service, environmental and industrial applications, where the effects constitute beneficial and desirable biofilm attenuating activity.
POLYELECTROLYTE DENTAL ADHESIVES FOR WHITENING TEETH AND TEETH COMPONENTS
This document relates to methods and materials involved in providing a tooth, tooth component, or inorganic dental material (e.g., a human tooth, a human tooth component, or an inorganic dental material within a human's mouth) with a white appearance. For example, a whitening adhesive containing a conjugate of at least a polyamine, a polyphosphate, and one or more whitening agents (e.g., titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and/or hydroxyapatite) can be used to provide a tooth, tooth component, or inorganic dental material with a whiter appearance.
AGENT FOR TEMPORARILY RESHAPING KERATIN-CONTAINING FIBERS COMPRISING A POLYMER MIXTURE
Transparent cosmetic compositions include, based on the total weight thereof, a) 0.1 to 10 wt. % of a conditioning polymer; b) 0.5 to 25 wt. % of a thickening polymer; c) 0.01 to 30 wt. % of a film-forming polymer; d) 1 to 35 wt. % of a humectant; e) 0.1 to 6 wt. % of an acid, and f) 1 to 90 wt. % water.
The cosmetic compositions are particularly suitable for temporarily reshaping keratin fibers, and in particular curly human hair.
Polymer-based antimicrobial compositions and methods of use thereof
Provided is a polymer-based antimicrobial composition that is non-toxic, water soluble, and that mitigates the transmission of infectious diseases from surfaces. The composition comprises a cationic polymer, at least one adhesion promoter, optionally organic and/or inorganic particles that are photocatalytically active in visible light, and a carrier, in which the components of the composition are not covalently bound to one another. Also provided is an antimicrobial composition that comprises at least (i) a polyethylenimine-based polymer and a carrier or (ii) an organic and/or inorganic particle that is photocatalytically active in visible light, an adhesion promoter, and a carrier. The antimicrobial compositions can be applied to disinfect a surface and to form residual self-sanitizing films on the surface that are removable.
Hair cosmetic
The present invention relates to a hair cosmetic containing the following components (A) to (C): (A) a compound represented by the following general formula (1) or a salt thereof: ##STR00001## wherein a broken line represents the presence or absence of a π bond; R.sup.1 represents a hydroxy group or an acetoxy group; R.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom or —COOR (R is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, or an ethyl group); and R.sup.3 represents a hydrogen atom, an acetyl group, a methyl group, or an ethyl group; (B) a cationic polymer; and (C) an ampholytic polymer having a predetermined cationic structural unit and an anionic structural unit, a mass ratio of the component (C) to the component (A) [(C)/(A)] being 0.7 or more and 10 or less.
Rheology modifier compositions and methods of use
A composition for enhancing fluid viscosity including a mixture of at least one cationic or cationizable polymer and at least one anionic or anionizable (hydrolysable) polymer. The composition has a zeta potential at 25° C. in the range of 0.5 to 100 mV or −0.5 to −100 mV, typically 1 to 60 mV or −1 to −60 mV, or is a precursor convertible at a temperature of 100 to 250° C. to the composition having a zeta potential at 25° C. of 0.5 to 100 mV or −0.5 to −100 mV, typically 1 to 60 mV or −1 to −60 mV. Typically the compositions exhibit salt tolerance and interaction of both polymers at very high temperatures (>300° F.) such that the system exhibits an increase of viscosity at extreme temperatures. The compositions are useful for hydraulic fracturing, enhanced oil recovery, subterranean acidization, personal care as well as home and industrial cleaners.
COSMETIC COMPOSITION FOR SKIN
The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition for skin containing a solvent A, a solvent B, and a polymer C, wherein a boiling point of the solvent A is lower than 99° C., and a distance Ra of the Hansen solubility parameter of the solvent A to water is 36 or less; a boiling point of the solvent B is 150° C. or higher, and a distance Ra of the Hansen solubility parameter of the solvent B to water is 40 or more; and the solvent B is compatible with the solvent A, and the polymer C is soluble in the solvent A but insoluble in the solvent B; and to a cosmetic coating film for skin,
RESIN PARTICLES
Resin particles include mother particles containing a biodegradable resin, and a coating layer containing at least one selected from the group consisting of a quaternary ammonium salt-containing polymer, polyacrylamide, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and polylysine on a surface of the mother particles.
PROTECTIVE SKIN COMPOSITIONS
The subject of the present invention is cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions which are protective against common skin irritants or allergens. The invention is also directed to the use of these compositions to protect skin from the effects of metal. Another object of the invention is a method of preventing or protecting the skin from the effects of metal, using the compositions of the invention.
