INHIBITING COLOR FADING WITH LAYER-BY-LAYER FILMS
The present disclosure relates to methods for inhibiting color fading in hair and for improving the color durability and stability of artificial color of hair. The methods entail forming a layer-by-layer (LbL) film on hair, and optionally forming a cationic surface layer on the LbL film. The LbL film is formed by applying a cationic silane layer on the hair and subsequently applying an anionic polymer layer on the cationic silane. Multiple cationic silane layers and anionic polymer layers can sequentially be added as desired. Finally, the LbL film may comprise a cationic surface layer.

The compositions further include a film-forming polymer selected from a film-forming acrylic polymer, a film-forming urethane polymer, and combinations thereof. The compositions further include hydrophobic silica and are substantially free of fatty compounds.

METHOD OF CLEANING HAIR USING A LOW pH HAIR CARE COMPOSITION
A method of using a hair care composition that cleans the hair and removes dirt and product build up, while also leaving the hair feeling clean, lightly conditioned and/or untangled, as demonstrated by the wet combing and hair feel tests. The hair care composition includes a surfactant, a rheology modifier, and an aqueous carrier, wherein the composition has a pH ranging from about 2 to about 4 as measured by taking a direct pH measurement using a standard hydrogen electrode of the composition at 25° C. Additionally, the viscosity of the aqueous composition is from about 3,000 cP to about 15,000 cP.
Methods of Increasing the Volume of a Fiber, Such as Mammalian Hair, and/or Altering the Structure of a Fiber with a Chitosan Polyelectrolyte Complex
The invention includes methods of increasing the volume of a fiber by applying to the fiber a chitosan cross linked with or complexed to an aldehyde-bearing compound, and a polyanion. The fiber is then dried forming a chitosan polyelectrolyte complex on the hair that increases the dimension of the fiber. The fiber may be wet prior to application and may be a mammalian hair. Also included are method of semi-permanently altering the structure of hair that includes topically applying to hair a chitosan cross linked with or complexed to an aldehyde-bearing compound, and a polyanion. Also contemplated within the scope of the invention is a hair care polyelectrolyte complex that includes a chitosan cross linked with or complexed to an aldehyde-bearing compound, and a polyanion. Systems for hair treatment are also encompassed within the scope of the invention and include at least two formulations: a first formulation comprising a chitosan cross linked with or complexed to an aldehyde-bearing compound, and a second formulation comprising a polyanion. Such systems may be included in hair care kits.
