THIN COATINGS FOR HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS
An example hydraulic system component of a machine includes a protective coating deposited by high velocity air fuel (HVAF) thermal spray, exhibiting high adhesion strengths and surface morphologies that promote lubricant adhesion and reduce the leakage of oil and/or hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic system. The coating may have surface roughness with Rz values less than 2 μm and hardness of 1000 Vickers or greater. The HVAF coating may be thinner than conventional coatings with thicknesses less than 100 μm. The HVAF coating may be deposited on a variety of steel components with adhesion strengths greater than those achieved by high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF). The HVAF coating may be formed without time consuming roughening and/or post-grind operations, resulting in cost savings compared to conventional coatings. The coatings may have operational lifetimes of 1000 hours or more.

A method includes performing ion beam sputtering with ion assisted deposition to deposit a protective layer on a surface of a body. The protective layer is a plasma resistant rare earth-containing film of a thickness less than 1000 .Math.m. The porosity of the protective layer is below 1%. The plasma resistant rare earth-containing film consists of 40 mol% to less than 100 mol% of Y.sub.2O.sub.3, over 0 mol% to 60 mol% of ZrO.sub.2, and 0 mol% to 9 mol% of Al.sub.2O.sub.3.
Aluminum alloy strip with improved surface appearance
The invention relates to an aluminum alloy strip with improved surface optics, which is fabricated via hot and/or cold rolling, and consists of a type AA 3xxx, AA 5xxx, AA 6xxx or AA 8xxx aluminum alloy. The object of proposing an aluminum alloy strip that is suitable for attractive and precious surface optics despite the elevated percentage of alloy constituents is achieved in that, after degreasing, the finish-rolled aluminum alloy strip exhibits an increase in the luminance value L*(ΔL) in relation to the rolled-greasy state of more than 5 while measuring the color of the surface in the CIE L*a*b* color space using a standard illuminant D65 and a normal observation angle of 10°, excluding direct reflection in 45°/0° geometry.
METHODS OF MAKING THREE DIMENSIONAL GLASS CERAMIC ARTICLES
A three dimensional glass ceramic article with a thickness between 0.1 mm and 2 mm, having a dimensional precision control of less than or equal to ±0.1 mm. A method for forming a three dimensional glass ceramic article including placing a nucleated glass article into a mold, and heating the nucleated glass article to a crystallization temperature, where the nucleated glass article is in the mold during the heating. Then, holding the nucleated glass article at the crystallization temperature for a duration sufficient to crystallize the nucleated glass article and form a three dimensional glass ceramic article, where the nucleated glass article is in the mold during the holding, and removing the three dimensional glass ceramic article from the mold.
Cold-formability of glass laminate article utilizing stress prediction analysis and related methods
Articles and methods related to the cold-forming of glass laminate articles utilizing stress prediction analysis are provided. A cold-forming estimator (CFE) value that is related to the stress experienced by a glass sheet of a glass laminate during cold-forming is calculated based on a plurality of geometric parameters of glass layer(s) of a glass laminate article. The calculated CFE value is compared to a cold-forming threshold related to the probability that defects are formed in the complexly curved glass laminate article during cold-forming. Cold-formed glass laminate articles are also provided having geometric parameters such that the CFE value is below the cold-forming threshold.
MICROLATTICE DAMPING MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR REPEATABLE ENERGY ABSORPTION
Described is a micro-lattice damping material and a method for repeatable energy absorption. The micro-lattice damping material is a cellular material formed of a three-dimensional interconnected network of hollow tubes. This material is operable to provide high damping, specifically acoustic, vibration or shock damping, by utilizing the energy absorption mechanism of hollow tube buckling, which is rendered repeatable by the micro-lattice architecture.
METHOD OF USING A SELF ADHERING ROOFING MEMBRANE
A method of covering a roof deck involves adhering a preformed, self adhering single ply roofing membrane which includes a water impermeable membrane, a pressure sensitive, hot melt adhesive adhered to one side of the water impermeable membrane, and a release liner on the side of the pressure sensitive, hot melt adhesive opposite of the water impermeable membrane.
USE OF A QUINONE COMPOUND IN BUILDING MATERIALS
The present disclosure relates to the use of various quinones to protect building materials from bird, pest and/or fungal damage. In particular, the disclosure relates to incorporating one or more quinone compounds in a building material to deter birds, pests or fungi from damaging such material.
Zinc-based plated steel sheet having post-treated coating formed thereon
Provided is a zinc-based plated steel sheet having a post-treated coating filmed thereon including: a steel sheet; a zinc plated layer formed on the steel sheet; and a post-treated coating formed on the plated layer, wherein the atomic ratio (O/M) of oxygen (O) to metals (M) contained in the post-treated coating is greater than 2 and less than 20, and a method for post-treating a zinc-based plated steel sheet. According to this, the zinc-based plated steel sheet having the post-treated coating formed thereon has the effects excellent in lubricity, weldability, adhesiveness, film-removing property and paintability. As the method of post-treating a zinc-based plated steel sheet of the present invention employs a simple coating method irrespective of the kind of plating layer, the process is simple and economical and the process operation cost is low.
