The invention relates to a prepreg comprising a structural layer of conductive fibres comprising thermosetting resin in the interstices, and a first outer layer of resin comprising thermosetting resin, and comprising a population of conductive free filaments located at the interface between the structural layer and the outer resin layer which, when cured under elevated temperature, produces a cured composite material comprising a cured structural layer of packed conductive fibres and a first outer layer of cured resin, the outer layer of cured resin, comprising a proportion of the population of conductive free filaments dispersed therein, and to a process for manufacturing prepregs wherein the electrically conductive fibres pass a fibre disrupting means to cause a proportion of the fibres on an external face of the sheet to become free filaments.

Fiber webs coated with fiber-containing resins
10137392 · 2018-11-27 · ·

Fiber webs that may be coated and used in filter media are provided. In some embodiments, the fiber web is a non-woven web that is coated with a resin comprising fibers. For example, the resin may include fibers that have sizes (e.g., diameters) in the nano or micron range. In some cases, the fibers distributed within the resin are fibrillated fibers. The respective characteristics and amounts of the fibers in the resin may be selected to impart desirable properties including enhanced mechanical properties and filtration properties (e.g., relatively high strength and air permeability), amongst other benefits.

METHOD OF SEALING A POROUS FIBROUS SUBSTRATE, AND DOOR SKINS, PRODUCED BY THE METHOD
20180333891 · 2018-11-22 ·

A method of surface sealing a porous fibrous substrate is provided. According to the method, a porous fibrous substrate possessing a moisture content and a surface with pores is provided. A sealant composition is applied to a surface of the porous fibrous substrate and permitted to penetrate the surface pores of the porous fibrous substrate and undergo cure while participating in a foaming reaction with the moisture content to establish a water-resistant polymeric foam sealant impregnated into the porous fibrous substrate. The water-resistant polymeric foam sealant contains a polyurethane and/or polyurea.

High tenacity low shrinkage polyamide yarns

Multi-filament polyamide yarns characterized by high tenacity and low shrinkage are disclosed. Such yarns or fabrics made therefrom can be used in industrial applications in which such a combination of properties is desirable. Such yarns are particularly useful in the manufacture of automobile airbag fabrics. Also disclosed is a process for making such yarns. The yarn manufacturing process involves spin-drawing molten nylon, relaxing and controlling the yarn tension, and then winding the yarn. Yarns made according to this process exhibit linear density in the range of 110-940 decitex, tenacity equal to or greater than 80 cN/tex, and shrinkage, measured at 177 C., of less than 5%.

Adhesion Composition and Textile Materials and Articles Treated Therewith
20180312736 · 2018-11-01 ·

This invention relates to improved adhesion compositions and textile materials and articles treated therewith. The improved adhesion composition comprises a non-crosslinked resorcinol-formaldehyde and/or resorcinol-furfural condensate (or a phenol-formaldehyde condensate that is soluble in water), a rubber latex, and an aldehyde component such as 2-furfuraldehyde. The composition may be applied to textile substrates and used for improving the adhesion between the treated textile substrates and rubber materials. End-use articles that contain the treated textile-rubber composite include, without limitation, automobile tires, belts, and hoses as well as printing blankets.

Heat and flame-resistance materials and upholstered articles incorporating same

A mattress, foundation, or other upholstered sleep product or article includes a core and barrier material surrounding the core. The barrier material includes flame and heat-resistant material that is configured to prevent combustion of the core when the upholstered article is impinged with a gas flame according to California Technical Bulletin 603 of the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs. The barrier material may include an intumescent material that is configured to swell and char in the presence of a flame so as to form a barrier to the flame and to heat generated by the flame.

Polyphenylene ether resin composition, and a prepreg and a copper clad laminate made therefrom

The present invention relates to a polyphenylene ether resin composition, and a prepreg and a copper dad laminate made therefrom. The polyphenylene ether resin composition comprises: (A) functionalized polyphenylene ether resin, (B) crosslinking agent, and (C) initiator; the component (A) functionalized polyphenylene ether resin is polyphenylene ether resin that has a number average molecular weight of 500-5000 and unsaturated double bonds at the molecule terminal; the component (B) crosslinking agent is olefin resin with a number average molecular weight of 500-10000, of which styrene structure comprises 10-50 wt %, and of which the molecule comprises 1,2-addition butadiene structure. The polyphenylene ether resin composition of the present invention is a composition of functionalized polyphenylene ether resin with a low molecular weight. The prepreg and copper clad laminate made from the polyphenylene ether resin composition have good dielectric properties and heat resistance.
