Device for collecting waste from water
A device having a funnel structure (connected to a separating arrangement by a base pipe is disclosed. The base pipe is horizontal and arranged between the funnel structure and the base pipe. The base pipe is also a vertical suction pipe. The device includes a pressure pipe which is parallel to the base pipe. The funnel structure is slightly below the water surface. In operation, water and floating waste pass over the edges of the funnel structure and swirl into the suction pipe. A jet of water may be injected through the pressure pipe to the base pipe. A flow gradient may then be formed in the base pipe and the differently sized waste objects may separate. If the water contains liquid waste, the speed of the water jet may be adjusted in such a way that the liquid waste and water do not form an emulsion.
EQUIPMENT, SYSTEMS AND VESSELS, FOR THE EFFECTIVE CLEANUP AND RECOVERY OF A BROAD RANGE OF FLOATING CONTAMINANTS
A system for removing contaminants from a body of water, may include a vessel, having contaminant cleanup and recovery equipment that may have at least one intake port capable of removing floating contaminants from the body of water to be transported to the recovery vessel. The system may further include a first towboat and a second towboat. The system may also include a first containment boom capable of being connected to the first tow boat and to a starboard side of a vessel. The system may also include a second containment boom capable of being connected to the second tow boat and a port side of the vessel, such that during operation the first and second towboats extend out from the vessel such that the first and second containment booms gather the floating contaminants from the body of water and channel them to the at least one intake port.
Biochar containment boom and blanket
A water remediation device is disclosed, including a water-permeable outer fabric defining a cavity therein, a buoyant core disposed within the cavity, and a mass of water remediation media including biochar disposed between the buoyant core and the water-permeable outer fabric. The remediation media is configured to reduce a quantity of a polyfluoroalkyl substance present in a sample of contaminated water when the remediation device is placed in the sample of contaminated water. The device may be formed into an elongated boom that is configured to float on or partially-submerge in water. Alternatively, the device may be formed of a pad or blanket that may be entirely submerged in water during use.
SMART SAND AND METHOD FOR OIL-WATER SEPARATION
A smart sand includes raw sand particles, synthetic SiO.sub.2 particles attached to the raw sand particles, a first material attached to a first set of the synthetic SiO.sub.2 particles, a second material attached to a second set of the synthetic SiO.sub.2 particles, and a third material attached to the first material. Each of the first to third materials is different from each other.
Ionic liquids formulation as an environmentally friendly oil dispersant
Disclosed herein is an oil dispersant composition that contains an acyl amino acid ionic liquid, a dicationic ionic liquid, a fruit acid ionic liquid, a polyacid ionic liquid, and an ethoxylate oleyl ether ionic liquid. The composition may also be diluted with water. The composition is useful for dispersing an oil spill in a body of water, while being less toxic to the aquatic environment and also acting to stimulate bacterial growth in said aquatic environment.
Silt Fence Configured for Capturing Pollutants and Fabric Forming the Same
A composite silt fence configured for capturing pollutants in one embodiment comprises a silt fence fabric including i) a polymeric geotextile fabric particulate filtering layer defining the hydraulic flow capacity for the silt fence, ii) a pollutant capturing layer coupled to the polymeric geotextile fabric particulate filtering layer and configured to capture some select pollutants in water from flow that has passed through the polymeric geotextile fabric particulate filtering layer, and iii) a backing layer coupled to the pollutant capturing layer; and a plurality of stakes secured to the silt fence fabric at spaced locations. The silt fence fabric yields higher hydraulic flow than existing fence constructions with greater sediment retention and pollutant containment features.
Water surface garbage salvaging device
A water surface garbage salvaging device, comprising a demihull, a large garbage salvaging device and a small garbage cleaning device; wherein the large garbage salvaging device is arranged on a front portion of the demihull, and the small garbage cleaning device is arranged on a rear portion thereof; the large garbage salvaging device comprises a paddle wheel, slipways and a large garbage storage bin; and the small garbage cleaning device comprises a filter mesh, a guide rail slider mechanism, a lifting mechanism and a pulley system, a hanging bracket is arranged above the filter mesh.
Graphene reinforced polystyrene composite for separation of nonpolar compounds from water
A composite material of polyurethane foam having a layer of reduced graphene oxide and polystyrene is described. This composite material may be made by contacting a polyurethane foam with a suspension of reduced graphene oxide, drying, and then irradiating in the presence of styrene vapor. The composite material has a hydrophobic surface that may be exploited for separating a nonpolar phase, such as oil, from an aqueous solution.
Hydrophilic toothed impeller type oil transportation device
The present disclosure is directed to providing impeller type oil transportation device including; a transport unit provided such that a mixed fluid including an oil is fed on one side; and an impeller provided in the transport unit, the impeller including a core connected to a rotation axis, and wings extending radially from the core and having hydrophilic teeth on an outer surface to transport the mixed fluid including the oil to the other side of the transport unit by rotation, wherein the impeller is provided in the transport unit such that parts of the wings are exposed above a surface of the mixed fluid, to separate the oil adhered to the teeth while the mixed fluid is fed into a space between the adjacent teeth by capillary flow when the wings exposed above the surface of the mixed fluid move on to the mixed fluid by the rotation.
Products and methods for the treatment of mixtures of water and hydrophobic liquids
The invention relates to chemical-based methods and products for mitigating the impact of an oil spill, that act via mechanisms which include reducing adhesiveness, herding, thickening and gelling. N-fatty acid amino acid (FA-AA) conjugates display oil-herding behavior when formulated as a salt, or the free acid in water-miscible organic solvents. Various salts of FA-AA conjugates are water soluble and can herd oils and increase the thickness of the oil layer. Replacement of the acid group of fatty acid α-amino acid conjugates with other groups that act as hydrogen bond donors and acceptors results in potent phase selective organo gellants. The oil thickeners or gellants include can be prepared from biobased feedstocks, have low toxicity, high capacity for oil and reduction of the need to use an organic solvent to apply the thickener or gellant to an oil and water mixture in order to gel the oil phase. ##STR00001##
