Light weight mast for supporting a wind turbine
A vertical axis wind turbine is supported by a durable and lightweight composite mast comprising a foam material and a support material, wherein the foam material is either (i) layered within or (ii) distributed among the support material. The foam material may be selected from polyethylene, cross-linked polyethylene, ethafoam, polyester, polyether, ether-like-ester, expanded polystyrene, and/or polyurethane. The support material may be selected from steel, metal, carbon nanotubes, and/or plastics such as polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polystyrene, polylactic acid, polycarbonate, acrylic, acetal and/or nylon. A mixture ratio between the foam material and the support material may be at least 15:1. The mast may comprise a central core layer of foam and a peripheral layer of the support material. In an embodiment, adjacent layers of the central core layer and the peripheral layers alternate between the core and support materials.
EFFICIENT WIND ENERGY CONVERTOR WITHOUT GEARBOX OR MULTI-POLE GENERATOR
A vertical axis turbine having a first rotor and at least one second rotor, the first rotor being configured to rotate around a first rotation axis that is vertical or more vertical than horizontal, in use. The first rotor may be configured to be driven and/or rotated by fluid motion, e.g. by wind or water flow. The at least one second rotor is provided on or coupled to the first rotor such that the first rotor is operable to move the second rotor through the fluid and thereby drive the second rotor upon rotation of the first rotor. The second rotor is operable to drive a power take off system. Optionally, rotation of the first rotor around the first rotation axis moves the second rotor around the first rotation axis. Each second rotor rotates around a respective second rotation axis that may be angled or perpendicular to the first rotation axis of the first rotor and is optionally a horizontal axis or at least an axis that is more horizontal than vertical, in use. The first and second rotors are configured so that the power take-off is by direct drive without the need for a gearbox or multi-pole generator. The first and second rotors are configured so that the power conversion of mechanical power at the first rotor is converted to mechanical power at the second rotors has high efficiency.
Blend for curing epoxy resin composistions
The present disclosure provides a curable composition that includes an epoxy resin and a curing component comprising a blend of at least two amines. The curable composition may be combined with reinforced fibers and cured to form a composite article which can be used in various applications, such as in wind turbine blades.
Vertical turbine systems
A vertical turbine comprising a blade control mechanism including a sun gear engaging a plurality of planetary gears each coupled to blade assemblies. The sun gear has at least half circumference of its teeth removed, as the turbine receives maximum downstream torque in the circumference with teeth and it leaves blades free to rotate in the circumference without teeth for minimum upstream drag. The turbine converts the rotational blades into parallel movement and unidirectional propulsion with minimum turbulence.
SPAN-WISE EXTENDING PIN FOR JOINING ROTOR BLADE SEGMENTS
A span-wise extending pin for joining blade segments of a rotor blade includes a distal portion having a length defined by a first end and an opposing, second end. The distal portion has a conical shape extending for at least a portion of the length thereof for providing ease of insertion of the pin into a pin joint slot of one of the first and second blade segments. The pin also includes a pin portion adjacent to the distal portion. The pin portion includes a first section and a second section. The second section is configured for securing within a beam structure of the first blade segment. The first section extends span-wise from a receiving end of the beam structure. The pin also includes a proximal portion having at least a rod member that extends span-wise through and secures together the pin portion and the distal portion.
WIND TURBINE WITH VERTICAL AXIS OF ROTATION OF THE ROTOR AND FLOATING WIND FARM COMPRISING A PLURALITY OF SUCH WIND TURBINES
The invention relates to a wind turbine (100) having a rotor (102) rotatable about a vertical axis of rotation (104) having a rotating hub (3) and a plurality of rotor blades disposed along an outer periphery of the rotor (102), each of which have a lower segment (4) and an upper segment (5) attached to an upper distal end of the lower segment (4). The lower proximal ends of the lower segments (4) of the rotor blades are each attached to the rotating hub (3). To form a particularly stable and lightweight platform for the rotor (102) or rotor blades, it is proposed that the lower segments (4) of the rotor blades form an inverted pyramid in conjunction with the hub (3), guy wires (7) and bracing wires (8), wherein the guy wires (7) interconnect first attachment points (6) in the area of the distal ends of the lower segments (4) and the bracing wires (8) connect the first attachment points (6) to the hub (3).
VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINE
The present device is a vertically oriented wind turbine blade having a rectangular simple curvilinear shaped blade, which includes a top edge, a bottom edge, an outer edge, an inner edge, an inner surface and an outer surface. The blade is formed using extrusion to approximate a uncompleted airfoil shape from the inner edge to the outer edge (relative to the turbine center or hub). The angle of attack, the solidity and the arms angle are designed to improve performance at low wind speeds.
WIND DIRECTION SYSTEM
The present invention is a wind direction system. The system includes at least one lower airfoil having a leading edge, front surface, middle surface, rear surface, and trailing edge, and at least one wind turbine mounted above the at least one lower airfoil. The lower airfoil is mounted to a building surface. The front surface of the lower airfoil is angled into an airflow relative to the middle surface. The lower airfoil causes wind airflow traveling over a building to be drawn to an upper surface of the building and be directed towards the wind turbine, resulting greater utilization of the wind and increased power generation through the turbine.
Electric generator having multiple electrical machines
An electric generator that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy includes, among other things, a first axial flow electrical machine that includes a first rotor mounted in rotation about a first axis and surrounding a first stator; a second axial flow electrical machine that includes a second rotor coaxial to the first rotor and surrounding a second stator; and first azimuthal securing means that joins together the first and second rotors so that the first and second rotors can be simultaneously set in rotation about the first axis. The electrical generator may be used as part of a wind turbine.
Horizontal and vertical axis wind generator
An embodiment of Horizontal and Vertical Axis Wind Generator (HVAWG) concept with rotating big and small wings, magnetic coils, and magnetic field magnets attached to the wings. The generator motors use the generator motor coils, the generator motor magnets, magnetic field coils and magnetic field magnets to help produce the power using the repulsive characters of the same magnetic poles. Also, both the outside and the inside parts of the generator motors rotate while the inside parts of the generator motors rotate in the traditional wind generators.
