Described are a method and a system for producing porous iron by means of a direct reduction process. In said method and system, a reducing gas is introduced into a DRI reduction device, and the direct reduction process is carried out therein. Coke oven gas and/or natural gas is/are reformed by adding gas, which contains steam and carbon dioxide and which is top gas from a DRI reduction device, and oxygen in a COG reformer so as to obtain reducing gas.

METHOD FOR SUPPLYING HYDROGEN-CONTAINING REDUCING GAS TO SHAFT PART OF BLAST FURNACE

The present invention provides a novel method for supplying a reducing gas to the shaft part of a blast furnace with which a large amount of reducing gas containing hydrogen at a high concentration can be supplied to a deeper position in the blast furnace (location of the blast furnace closer to the center axis in the radial direction) and with which it is possible to reduce the total generated amount of CO.sub.2 of the CO.sub.2 amount that is reduced by conducting hydrogen smelting in the blast furnace and the CO.sub.2 amount that is generated during production of the reducing gas supplied to the blast furnace. The method for supplying a reducing gas to the shaft part of a blast furnace according to the present invention is characterized by reforming coke oven gas by increasing the temperature thereof to 1200 to 1800? C. in a reactor in which an oxygen-containing gas is supplied to preheated coke oven gas to generate reformed gas in which hydrogen gas is enriched; mixing the reformed gas with CO-containing gas in the reactor so that the hydrogen concentration of the reducing gas is adjusted to 15-35 vol % (wet); and supplying the resultant reducing gas to the shaft part of the blast furnace under a condition of a ratio of a flow rate of reducing gas blown into shaft part/flow rate of reducing gas blown into tuyere >0.42.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PRODUCING HIGH-CARBON DRI USING SYNGAS

Producing direct reduced iron (DRI) having chemically-combined carbon includes providing DRI at a temperature above 400 C., providing a first gas stream including hydrogen and carbon monoxide, passing the first gas stream through a methane forming process to yield a second gas stream containing a higher concentration of methane than the first gas stream; and contacting the second gas stream with the DRI. A system for producing the DRI includes a vessel for containing DRI at a temperature above 400 C., a methane forming reactor containing a catalyst bed for producing methane from a first gas stream containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide, a first conduit to feed a gas stream including hydrogen and carbon monoxide to the methane forming reactor, and a second conduit to feed the second gas stream to the vessel containing the DRI.

A method of direct reduction of iron (DRI) is disclosed, the method comprising generating metallic iron by removing oxygen from iron ore using a reducing gaseous mixture with excess carbon monoxide that produces an excess CO.sub.2 by-product is provided. A method is disclosed for extracting metals from concentrated sulphurated minerals containing metals by direct reduction with regeneration and recycling of the reducing agent, iron, and of the flux, sodium carbonate. It is a combination of pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes which differ from the conventional processes. They do not require previous toasting of the concentrated sulphurated minerals and are technically and economically more advantageous than the presently used processes, since they directly reduce to zero the positive oxidation state of the metal, using a single reactor for extracting the metal, regenerating and recycling the metallurgical feed materials in complementary processes, the kinetics of the chemical reactions being characterised by high speed, without generating any slags or pollutant gases. The metals can be extracted at a reduced cost and in an environmentally sustainable manner

The present disclosure relates to an iron briquette produced by providing sponge iron pellets, providing carbon powder, producing a mixture of the sponge iron pellets and the carbon powder, and briquetting the mixture to provide an iron briquette comprising compressed sponge iron pellets and carbon powder located in interstitial spaces between the compressed sponge iron pellets, wherein the iron briquette comprises at least 0.2 wt % carbon powder, and wherein the sponge iron pellets comprise at least 0.5 wt % iron oxide and are essentially free of carbon. The disclosure further relates to a method for producing such an iron briquette.
