The method includes supplying the travel motor with a power in a direction opposite to an operating direction of the travel motor in order to reduce a rotational speed of the travel motor, if it is detected in advance using a situation detection that the braking force acting on the vehicle wheels as a result of the speed deceleration is lower than the driving force acting on the vehicle wheels.

An in-wheel motor for a vehicle includes: a stator with a connector attaching the stator to the vehicle, the connector including a shaft, an end plate of a larger diameter than the shaft, and a coolant passage through the end plate, the stator further including a hollow stator body with cylindrical outer surface and mounted to the connector. Cooling channels for circulating liquid coolant extend along the hollow stator body and are in fluid connection with the coolant supply duct, the cooling channels having an inlet for supply of liquid coolant to the plurality of channels and an outlet for discharging liquid coolant from the plurality of channels; wherein, at a side opposite from the connector member, the hollow stator body has an open end with a diameter larger than the diameter of the shaft. Also disclosed is a cooling jacket for such an in-wheel motor.

An object of the present invention is to suppress variations in an angle of a shoulder part of a segment coil to improve easiness in inserting segment coils in a stator core.

A stator of an electric motor according to the present invention includes a stator core 12 in which a plurality of slots 12a are formed, and a plurality of segment coils 11 of U shapes inserted respectively in the plurality of slots 12a.

The segment coil 11 includes a shoulder part 11a and a shoulder part 11b that are bent to form a U shape. In a front view of the U shape, a press mark 100a is formed on the shoulder part 11a and on the shoulder part 11b, the press mark being a dent sinking in a front-to-rear direction, from a front surface of the shoulder part 11a and from a front surface of the shoulder part 11b. The press mark 100a is formed also on a back surface of the shoulder part 11a and on a back surface of the shoulder part 11b.

The electric motor and inverter assembly comprises: an electric motor (300), which includes a housing including a main shell (310), an end cover (320) and a connecting cover (330), wherein a cooling passage is formed in a wall of the housing such that coolant is able to flow in the cooling passage, and an end cover (320) and a connecting cover (330) are respectively connected to opposite ends of the main shell; and an inverter, which includes a housing (210) in which a power element and/or an electrical device is received, wherein the housing of the inverter contacts the connecting cover such that an interface is defined between the connecting cover and the housing of the inverter, and the coolant flowing through the cooling passage is able to contact the interface.
