Methods and systems for selecting and presenting content based on dynamically identifying microgenres associated with the content
A method of selecting and presenting content based on learned user preferences is provided. The method includes providing a content System including a set of content items organized by genre characterizing the content items, and wherein the set of content items contains microgenre metadata further characterizing the content items. The method also includes receiving search input from the user for identifying desired content items and, in response, presenting a subset of content items to the user. The method further includes receiving content item selection actions from the user and analyzing the microgenre metadata within the selected content items to learn the preferred microgenres of the user. The method includes, in response to receiving subsequent user search input, selecting and presenting content items in an order that portrays as relatively more relevant those content items containing microgenre metadata that more closely match the learned microgenre preferences of the user.
Methods and systems for selecting and presenting content on a first system based on user preferences learned on a second system
A method of selecting and presenting content on a first system based on user preferences learned on a second system is provided. The method includes receiving a user's input for identifying items of the second content system and, in response thereto, presenting a subset of items of the second content system and receiving the user's selection actions thereof. The method includes analyzing the selected items to learn the user's content preferences for the content of the second content system and determining a relationship between the content of the first and second content systems to determine preferences relevant to items of the first content system. The method includes, in response subsequent user input for items of the first content system, selecting and ordering a collection of items of the first content system based on the user's learned content preferences determined to be relevant to the items of the first content system.
Apparatus and method for displaying records responsive to a database query
An apparatus and method for simultaneously displaying both record names and the associated files responsive to a user's search over a database. A user conducts a routine search query over a database or group of databases of records containing, for example, text documents, or alphabetical concordances thereof. The search engine returns a list of records responsive to the user's query. In contrast to the standard list of record identifiers, the apparatus displays both the identifiers and selected portions of those records or other useful information, as defined by the user, facilitating quick review. The user is able to sort the list of these responsive records in a variety of ways, either before the search, or within the list of results, to expedite review. The apparatus identifies records that have been reviewed previously by marking them as “viewed” links. Finally, when reviewing any responsive record in full, the complete list of records is displayed in a side panel, in a way that still allows resorting by the user. This side panel display may be re-sorted “on the fly.” It also allows the user to see the identifiers of records anywhere in the list, and to easily jump, such as with a single mouse click, to any record in the list.
Forecasting System and Method Using Change Data Based Database Storage for Efficient ASP and Web Application
In one embodiment, a system is provided. The system includes a first client. The system also includes an analysis server coupled to the first client. The system further includes a first customer database of information coupled to the analysis server. The first customer database is to embody forecast data and to receive essentially real-time updates to the forecast data. The first customer database supports an OLAP cube associated with the analysis server.
Method and apparatus for facilitating data management
A method and apparatus for facilitating data management over a network are described. In one embodiment, a request to display aggregate transaction data for a user is received, the aggregate transaction data containing data related to multiple disparate transactions organized into categories based on corresponding category codes and transaction codes associated with each transaction. The aggregate transaction data are retrieved from a database. A report containing the aggregate transaction data is generated and displayed for the user in a user interface area.
Customization of search results for search queries received from third party sites
A third party website provides a search interface to a general search engine. A site profile of the third party website describes various topics, keywords, or domains that are potentially relevant or of interest to users who access the third party website. The topics are associated with a topical directory, with domains associated with each topic; the domains in a given topic are given various weightings. When a search is submitted to the general search engine from the third party website via the search interface, the general search engine uses the site profile to customize the search results. The search results are customized by weighting the ranking of documents from websites associated with the topics in the site profile. The site profile can be manually or automatically constructed.
User interface methods and systems for selecting and presenting content based on user relationships
A user-interface method of selecting and presenting a collection of content items based on user navigation and selection actions associated with the content is provided. The method includes associating a relevance weight on a per user basis with content items to indicate a relative measure of likelihood that the user desires the content item. The method includes receiving a user's navigation and selections actions for identifying desired content items, and in response, adjusting the associated relevance weight of the selected content item and group of content items containing the selected item. The method includes, in response to subsequent user input, selecting and presenting a subset of content items and content groups to the user ordered by the adjusted associated relevance weights assigned to the content items and content groups.
Adaptive platform
An adaptive content platform includes one or more content-enabled, dependent applications, each of which includes a user interface and business logic. A services layer, which is interfaced with the dependent applications and a software infrastructure, provides one or more services that are usable by the dependent applications.
Method and apparatus for processing financial information at hardware speeds using FPGA devices
A method and apparatus use hardware logic deployed on a reconfigurable logic device to process a stream of financial information at hardware speeds. The hardware logic can be configured to perform data reduction operations on the financial information stream. Examples of such data reductions operations include data processing operations to compute a latest stock price, a minimum stock price, and a maximum stock price.
Methods and apparatus for managing and exchanging information using information objects
A computer-implemented method for interacting with at least one data item obtained from at least one source utilizes computer processes responsive to a user selection of the at least one data item and include causing configuring of each of the data items into a distinct information object by extracting, from each data item, extracted data including a picture, a heading, and a link to the data item, and causing storing of data corresponding to each of the information objects in a database system. The processes further include displaying a representation of each of at least two of the information objects in the database system, the representation being in a uniform format, wherein the format includes a card, and, within the card, in uniform locations thereof, the picture, the heading, a set of indicators, and a set of graphically accessible functions.
