A stop assembly may include a first portion configured to selectively operably engage a track of a tool and a stop portion operably engaged with the first portion configured to releasably engage a workpiece. The stop portion may be pivotable between a disengaged position and an engaged position relative to the first portion. The stop portion may move in a rotational direction toward the first portion when moving from the disengaged position to the engaged position. A method of use may include pivoting a stop portion of a stop assembly, about a pivot axis defined by a pivot shaft of the stop assembly, to an engaged position such that the stop portion moves in a rotational direction toward a first portion of the stop assembly.

Miter saw

A miter saw includes a base assembly and a saw unit pivotably coupled to the base assembly. The saw unit includes a saw arm, a brushless motor supported by the saw arm, and power electronics positioned outside the motor for supplying power to the motor. The power electronics are coupled to a structural component of the miter saw to utilize the entire mass of the structural component as a heat sink to dissipate heat generated by the power electronics.

A bevel angle lock and detent system for a miter saw includes a first locking unit fixed relative to the turntable and a second locking unit coupled to a bevel arm of the miter saw. An actuator is moveable between a first position and a second position to move the second locking unit relative to the first locking unit. In the first position, a brake member of the second locking unit is engaged with an arcuate surface of the first locking unit to lock a saw unit relative to a turntable. In the second position, the brake member is disengaged from the arcuate surface, thereby permitting pivoting movement of the saw unit, and a detent member of the second locking unit is engageable a detent aperture of the first locking unit to locate the saw unit relative to the turntable at one predetermined bevel angle.

Miter saw with adjustable fence

A miter saw includes a base, a turntable rotatable in relation to the base and including a work piece support surface, a support assembly attached to the turntable, and a saw assembly attached to the support assembly and configured to cut a work piece supported on the turntable. A fence assembly includes an elongate fence body that extends along a first axis. The elongate fence body is supported by the base and positioned over the turntable. The fence body has a first connecting structure, and a fence insert defining an elongate work piece abutment surface and having a second connecting structure. The fence assembly is positionable in a first configuration and a second configuration. In the first configuration, the second connecting structure cooperates with the first connecting structure to secure the fence insert at a first position in relation to the fence body. When the fence assembly is positioned in the second configuration, the second connecting structure cooperates with the first connecting structure to secure the fence insert at a second position in relation to the fence body. A second axis intersects the first axis in a perpendicular manner. When the fence insert is secured at the first position, the elongate work piece abutment surface is positioned to intersect the second axis at a first point. When the fence insert is secured at the second position, the elongate work piece abutment surface is positioned to intersect the second axis at a second point, and the first point is offset from the second point along said second axis.
