Cutting mechanism
There is disclosed a cutting mechanism for severing elongate fibre reinforcement material in composite material lay-up equipment, the cutting mechanism comprising a cutting element and a counteracting element which cooperate to sever fibre reinforcement material extending through the nip between them, the cutting element being mounted on an elongate arm which is pivotable about a pivot axis A spaced from the nip, to displace the cutting element relatively to the counteracting element to perform a cutting stroke, the mechanism further comprising guide means arranged to guide the fibre reinforcement material through the nip in a feed direction transverse to the pivot axis A, and an actuation device for driving the elongate arm in a cutting stroke, the actuation device acting on the elongate arm at a position away from the cutting element. There is also provided composite material lay-up equipment comprising the cutting mechanism.
METHOD OF PRODUCING A COMPOSITE MULTI-LAYERED PRINTED ABSORBENT ARTICLE
A method for producing a composite multi-layered absorbent article. At least two of the layers include a colored region.
SHINGLE WITH REINFORCED NAIL ZONE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING
A method of making a laminated shingle is provided. The method includes coating a shingle mat with roofing asphalt to make an asphalt-coated sheet, adhering a reinforcement member to a portion of the asphalt-coated sheet, covering the asphalt-coated sheet, and optionally covering the reinforcement member, with granules to make a granule-covered sheet, dividing the granule-covered sheet into an overlay sheet and an underlay sheet, wherein the overlay sheet has a tab portion normally exposed on a roof and a headlap portion normally covered-up on a roof, the headlap portion having a lower zone adjacent the tab portion and an upper zone adjacent the lower zone, and wherein the reinforcement member is adhered to the lower zone of the headlap portion and laminating the overlay sheet and the underlay sheet to make the laminated shingle.
Shingle with reinforced nail zone and method of manufacturing
A roofing shingle includes an asphalt-coated overlay sheet, an underlay sheet having a front surface secured to the overlay sheet, and a reinforcement member is secured directly to the asphalt coating of the headlap portion of the overlay sheet without extending into the tab portion. The asphalt coated overlay sheet includes a first granular material secured to a first portion of a front surface of the headlap portion of the overlay sheet along the nail zone, and a second granular material secured to a second portion of the front surface of the headlap portion of the overlay sheet adjacent to the first portion of the front surface of the headlap portion, with the first granular material providing a thinner cross-section than the second granular material to define a depressed surface extending along said longitudinal axis of the nail zone.

Systems for three-dimensional weaving of composite preforms and products with varying cross-sectional topology
A system fabricating composite preforms includes a layer assembly stage with a first stage for receiving new layers, such as layer N; and a second stage for holding up to K layers, such as layers N1 to NK. An interlayer reinforcement insertion mechanism inserts interlayer reinforcements Q through layer N and the layers N1 to NK, using a first layer spacing between layer NK and layer N-K1 in a completed layer stage. Following the interlayer reinforcements Q insertion, the layer assembly stage transfers the layer NK to the completed layer stage; closes the first layer spacing, bringing layers NK and NK1 into contact; and transfers the layer N to the second stage. The system repeats this cycle of receiving new layers, inserting interlayer reinforcements using layer spacings between the second and completed layer stages, closing these layer spacings, and transferring layers to construct composite preforms with arbitrary numbers of layers.

BAMBOO COMPOSITE MATERIAL FOR STRUCTURAL APPLICATIONS AND METHOD OF FABRICATING THE SAME
A bamboo composite material for structural applications and method of fabricating the same are provided. The method can comprise the steps of providing a bamboo culm; separating a slice or sheet from the bamboo culm such that the slice or sheet has a longitudinal axis along a fiber direction of the bamboo culm; at least partially detaching individual fiber bundles of the slice or sheet from each other along the longitudinal axis of the slice or sheet; applying a glue to the slice or sheet; and curing the glued slice or sheet.
