Perforated ceramic matrix composite ply, ceramic matrix composite article, and method for forming ceramic matrix composite article
A ceramic matrix composite article, method for forming the article, and perforated ply which may be incorporated therein are disclosed. The article includes at least one shell ply forming an exterior wall having first and second portions and defining a plenum. An annular brace formed of at least one structural support ply is disposed within the plenum, including a first integral portion integral with and part of the first portion of the exterior wall, a first curved portion extending from the first integral portion and curving across the article plenum to the second portion of the exterior wall, a second integral portion integral with and part of the second portion of the exterior wall, a second curved portion extending from the second integral portion and curving across the article plenum to the first curved portion, and an overlap in which the first and second curved portions are integral.
Microfluidic Device For Cell Separation And Uses Thereof
The invention features methods for separating cells from a sample (e.g., separating fetal red blood cells from maternal blood). The method begins with the introduction of a sample including cells into one or more microfluidic channels. In one embodiment, the device includes at least two processing steps. For example, a mixture of cells is introduced into a microfluidic channel that selectively allows the passage of a desired type of cell, and the population of cells enriched in the desired type is then introduced into a second microfluidic channel that allows the passage of the desired cell to produce a population of cells further enriched in the desired type. The selection of cells is based on a property of the cells in the mixture, for example, size, shape, deformability, surface characteristics (e.g., cell surface receptors or antigens and membrane permeability), or intracellular properties (e.g., expression of a particular enzyme).
SEAT SUPPORT ASSEMBLY FORMED BY ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
A support assembly formed by an additive manufacturing process using a printing head includes a trim member. A body includes multiple layers of at least one polymeric material applied onto the trim member via the printing head. The multiple layers each have multiple resilient polymeric material elements. A protective and abrasion resistant polymeric material cover is applied over the body using the printing head. At least one structural element is positioned in the body by operation of the printing head. At least one sensor is positioned in the body. At least one passage is formed within the body by selective omission of the at least one polymeric material from the printing head as the printing head displaces during the additive manufacturing process.
Method of producing a plate-like construction with a double-wall structure
A method of producing a plate-like construction having a double-wall structure and its use. According to the present invention, several elongated profiles which have essentially straight central axes are arranged against each other in such a way that adjacent hollow profiles abut each other and together form, in general terms, a flat stack having two opposite sides. The hollow profiles are welded together in order to join them with welded seams, in which case the welding is essentially carried out simultaneously from both sides of the stack. Besides good flexural strength and the opportunity to recycle, thermoplastic plates which are produced by means of the present method exhibit resistance to corrosion, decay and mould.
Nanotube-based insulators
A nanotube-based insulator is provided having thermal insulating properties. The insulator can include a plurality of nanotube sheets stacked on top of one another. Each nanotube sheet can be defined by a plurality of carbon nanotubes. The plurality of carbon nanotubes can be configured so as to decrease normal-to-plane thermal conductivity while permitting in-plane thermal conductivity. A plurality of spacers can be situated between adjacent nanotube sheets so as to reduce interlayer contact between the nanotubes in each sheet. The plurality of spacers can be ceramic or alumina dots or provided by texturing the nanotube sheets.
FLEXIBLE COVER FOR WIRES OR CABLES
A flexible covering for wires, cables, and the like includes a flexible sleeve in a partially rolled natural state and capable of being unrolled, and at least one pliable rod or insert running through an entire length of the flexible sleeve capable of firmly holding the flexible sleeve in a bent shape while allowing the flexible sleeve to remain wrapped around a bundle of wires.
CROSS-LAMINATED TIMBER PANELS
A cross-laminated timber panel comprises a plurality of layers of lumber boards, each layer comprising a number of the lumber boards laid side-to-side pointing to a direction, each layer being disposed perpendicular to the direction of an adjoining layer; and an insert member replacing one of the lumber boards, the insert member having a different material or configuration than the lumber boards.
Microfluidic device for cell separation and uses thereof
Methods for separating cells from a sample (e.g., separating fetal red blood cells from maternal blood) are described.
Branched interconnected microvascular network in polymers and composites using sacrificial polylactide films, sheets and plates
A microvascular system comprising a polymeric matrix and a planar structure, where the planar structure comprises a plurality of branched microfluidic channels in the matrix. At least a portion of the microfluidic channels are interconnected, and the interconnections between the channels are located in a plane defined by a longitudinal section of the planar structure.
Aircraft interior panels and methods of panel fabrication
A multifunctional fully integral panel system design, a unique material configuration, and a process for fabricating a net shape (or nearly net shape) panel in one production cycle. The panel may comprise a base facing with an outer perimeter, a decorative film applied to the exterior of the base facing, an aft facing having an outer perimeter fused to the base facing, and a reinforcement core disposed between the unfused portions of the base and aft facings, which reinforcement core also acts as acoustic insulation (i.e., a noise attenuator). Alternatively or additionally, a foam core or blanket having thermal and/or acoustic insulation properties is attached to the external surface of the aft facing. The fabrication process involves the application of different heat treatments to panel components having different forming temperature or rubbery/elastic plateaus.
