Compositions and methods for the protection of substrates from heat flux and fire
A flame or heat flux protective coating composition, which includes a dispersion of fiberglass, hollow glass spheres, or a combination of both in silicone. A flame or heat flux protective sheet, which includes hollow glass spheres dispersed in silicone in a sheet form or fiberglass and silicone in a sheet form, wherein the fiberglass is dispersed in the silicone or the fiberglass is a woven cloth coated with the silicone is also presented. Articles incorporating the flame or heat flux protective coating or sheet form and methods for coating an article with the flame or heat flux protective coating composition are also presented.
Wear resistant vapor deposited coating, method of coating deposition and applications therefor
A low friction top coat over a multilayer metal/ceramic bondcoat provides a conductive substrate, such as a rotary tool, with wear resistance and corrosion resistance. The top coat further provides low friction and anti-stickiness as well as high compressive stress. The high compressive stress provided by the top coat protects against degradation of the tool due to abrasion and torsional and cyclic fatigue. Substrate temperature is strictly controlled during the coating process to preserve the bulk properties of the substrate and the coating. The described coating process is particularly useful when applied to shape memory alloys.
Conductive surfacing material for composite structures
An electrically conductive surfacing material capable of providing sufficient conductivity for lightning strike protection (LSP) and/or electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is disclosed. The conductive surfacing material is a multi-layered structure having a very thin conductive layer (e.g. solid metal foil) and a resin film formed on at least one surface of the conductive layer. The resin film is formed from a curable resin composition containing an epoxy novolac resin, a tri-functional or tetra-functional epoxy resin, ceramic microspheres, a latent amine-based curing agent, particulate inorganic fillers; and a toughening component. Optionally, the resin film further includes conductive additives to increase electrical conductivity of the surfacing material. The resin film exhibits high T.sub.g as well as high resistance to paint stripper solutions. Furthermore, the conductive surfacing material is suitable for co-curing with fiber-reinforced resin composite substrates.
HIGHLY REFLECTIVE ROOFING SYSTEM
A cool roofing system includes highly reflective calcined kaolin particles having a solar reflectance of 80% to 92%. When applied to a roofing substrate, the highly reflective kaolin particles produce a roofing system having a solar reflectance greater than or equal to 70%.
COATING METHOD WITH SILICA COATING, AND SILICA-COATED BODY AND PRODUCTION METHOD THEREFOR
A coating method for a base material, including forming a silica coating having a desired and uniform thickness on the surface of the base material. A silica-coated body allowing the silica coating to sufficiently function as a reflective coating for ultraviolet rays to infrared rays even when the silica coating has a smaller thickness than those in the related art. A coating method for a surface of a base material with a silica coating, the method including at least: adding silica glass particles and an organic material capable of gelling by a thermal factor in an aqueous solution to water to produce a slurry; applying the slurry onto the surface of the base material to form an applied coating, followed by subjecting the applied coating to thermal treatment, to thereby obtain a gel coating; and drying the gel coating to provide a silica particle layer.
Durable retroreflective elements with a blend of beads
The disclosed retroreflective element includes a polymeric core that is loaded with a plurality of first beads and second beads distributed at the perimeter of the core. The first beads are different than the second beads. Because of the beads in the core, the retroreflective element remains useful for returning light even after portions of the core begins to wear away. Further, when the retroreflective elements get wet, water will settle to the bottom of the perimeter of the core. Therefore, using the second beads with a refractive index suited for wet conditions, while the first beads have a refractive index suited for dry conditions allows the retroreflective element to be useful in both wet and dry conditions even while the retroreflective element wears during use.
Coating compositions for roofing granules, dark colored roofing granules with increased solar heat reflectance, solar heat-reflective shingles and process for producing the same
Dark colored roofing granules include an inert base particle coated with a composition including a metal silicate, a non-clay latent heat reactant, and a dark colored but solar reflective pigment.
Fibrous Structured Amorphous Silica Including Precipitated Calcium Carbonate and Compositions of Matter Made Therewith
A nano-composite structure. A synthetic nano-composite is described having a first component including a fibrous structured amorphous silica structure, and a second component including a precipitated calcium carbonate structure developed by pressure carbonation. The nano-composite may be useful for fillers in paints and coatings. Also, the nano-composite may be useful in coatings used in the manufacture of paper products.
MEMBRANE ASSEMBLY AND METHOD OF INSTALLING ROOFING SYSTEM
A roofing system including a roof deck and a membrane assembly secured to the roof deck. The roof deck may be a flammable roof deck. The membrane assembly includes a roofing membrane and a fire resistant sheet, the fire resistant sheet, or a portion thereof, secured to the membrane. The fire resistant sheet includes a fabric substrate and a binder.
