Methods to fabricate nano-macro porous glass using a water soluble pore former
Provided herein are methods for preparing nano-macroporous glass articles, such as bioscaffolds, from starting materials such as phosphosilicate glasses made by melt-quench methods, mixed with a soluble pore former such as a sugar, followed by steps of dissolving, heating, and leaching to yield a glass composition having a highly interconnected system of both macropores and large scale nanoporosity.
Nanoporous particles in a hollow latex matrix
Prepare an article of manufacture by providing a latex of hollow latex particles with a rigid inner shell and adhesive outer shell, providing nanoporous particles and dispersing them into the latex and drying the latex so as to cause the hollow latex particle to bind to one another and form an article of manufacture containing nanoporous particles and hollow latex particles wherein the hollow latex particles are bound directly to one another to form a continuous matrix and the nanoporous particles are dispersed within the continuous matrix of hollow latex particles.
BLOCK COPOLYMERS WITH HIGH FLORY-HUGGINS INTERACTION PARAMETERS FOR BLOCK COPOLYMER LITHOGRAPHY
Block copolymers for use in block copolymer lithography, self-assembled films of the block copolymers and methods for polymerizing the block copolymers are provided. The block copolymers are characterized by high Flory-Huggins interaction parameters (). The block copolymers can be polymerized from protected hydroxystyrene monomers or from tert-butyl styrene and 2-vinylpyridine monomers.
Method of preparing polycrystalline diamond
An object is to provide polycrystalline diamond applicable to diverse applications; and a water jet orifice, a stylus for gravure printing, a scriber, a diamond cutting tool, and a scribing wheel that include such polycrystalline diamond. This object is achieved by polycrystalline diamond obtained by converting and sintering non-diamond carbon under an ultrahigh pressure and at a high temperature without addition of a sintering aid or a catalyst, wherein sintered diamond grains constituting the polycrystalline diamond have an average grain diameter of more than 50 nm and less than 2500 nm and a purity of 99% or more, and the diamond has a D90 grain diameter of (average grain diameter+average grain diameter0.9) or less.
Nanostructure layer and light emitting diode with the same
A nanostructure layer includes a number of nanostructures, wherein the number of nanostructures are aligned along a number of straight lines, a size of each of the number of nanostructures ranges from about 20 nanometers to about 100 nanometers, a distance between adjacent two nanostructures ranges from about 10 nanometers to about 300 nanometers, and each of the number of nanostructures includes a core and a shell coated on the core. A light emitting diode with the nanostructure layer is also provided.
Process for the production of magnesium fluoride sol solutions from alkoxides comprising addition of carbon dioxide
The invention relates to a method for obtaining a magnesium fluoride (MgF.sub.2) sol solution, comprising the steps of providing a magnesium alkoxide precursor in a non-aqueous solvent and adding 1.85 to 2.05 molar equivalents of non-aqueous hydrofluoric acid to said magnesium precursor, characterized in that the reaction proceeds in the presence of carbon dioxide. The invention further relates to sol solutions, method of applying the sol solutions of the invention to surfaces as a coating, and to antireflective coatings obtained thereby.
Composite materials
A composite material, the composite material comprising at least one prepreg, said prepreg comprising at least one polymeric resin and at least one fibrous reinforcement; and conducting particles dispersed in the polymeric resin.

Fumed silica
Fumed silica having a BET surface area of 20015 m2/g, a grindometer value of less than 30 m and a median value by PCS of 65 to 85 nm is prepared by grinding a fumed silica having a surface area of 20025 m2/g, and silicone rubber containing this silica.
THERMALLY INSULATING LOW-DENSITY STRUCTURAL WOODEN COMPOSITE
Wood-based composites, and methods for their manufacture, are provided. The composites include oriented wooden strands and cured bonding resin connecting adjacent strands. The composites are relatively low-density, having an average dry density of the wooden composites of about 15-28 pounds per cubic foot (pcf). The unique composition of the composites provide improved structural and insulating (thermal and acoustic) properties when compared to traditional engineered wood products (e.g., oriented strandboard).
