COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR DIAGNOSIS OF SHOCK
Methods and kits for diagnosis and staging of shock, and especially non-septic shock are presented in which protease activities and/or volatile compounds are measured from a biological sample to so identify and/or stage shock.
Compound for labeling amine-containing compounds, and its use
The invention relates to an activated form of procaine, and the use of the activated procaine, or salts or solvates thereof, to label amine-containing compounds, such as N-glycans, amine-containing amino acids, amine-containing peptides, amine-containing proteins, or other amine-containing compounds in a sample. Use of activated procaine as a label allows for sensitive detection of compounds labeled with it both by fluorescence and by mass spectrometry.
AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT MONITORING AND DOSING SYSTEMS AND APPARATUSES, AND METHODS AND SOFTWARE RELATING THERETO
Multi-parameter water analysis system with a water parameter sensing device configured to wirelessly provide detector data and a smart phone displayable indicator of water analysis test results that are calculated by an analysis application that is updateable via a cloud-based data resource to account for a manufacturing change in indicator chemistry and/or an improvement in test result display. The water parameter sensing device includes an optical sensing apparatus configured to detect light from each of a plurality of indicators for different parameters when the indicator and a chemical parameter are exposed to each other, a processor to process information of the detected light, and wireless communication circuitry for communicating detector data based on the information about the detected light to a remote device. Social networking of water quality data allows sharing to other users.
ULTRA LOW RANGE CHLORINE MEASUREMENT
An embodiment provides a method for measuring total chlorine in a solution, including: preparing a thiocarbamate indicator; introducing the thiocarbamate indicator to a solution, wherein the solution contains an amount of monochloramine; adding an additive to the solution, wherein the additive accelerates the reaction rate between the thiocarbamate indicator and monochloramine and causes a change in fluorescence of the solution; and measuring the amount of monochloramine in the solution by measuring an intensity of the fluorescence. Other aspects are described and claimed.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR THE DETERMINATION OF FILM FORMING AMINES IN A LIQUID
A photometric method for determination of a film forming amine in a liquid, comprises a) providing a buffer solution of a weak acid having a pKa4.5 and a strong acid having a pKa1; b) diluting an aliquot of the buffer solution with water, and determining the pH of said diluted buffer solution; c) adding reagent to said diluted buffer solution and measuring an initial absorbance of said diluted buffer/reagent solution; d) preparing a sample solution by adding liquid containing the film forming amine to an aliquot of the buffer solution and measuring the pH of the sample solution; e) adjusting the pH of the sample solution to match the pH of the diluted buffer solution by adding strong acid; and f) adding said reagent to the pH adjusted sample solution to form a colored complex, and measuring the absorbance of the resulting solution a photometer.

The device further comprises an indicating device thereon to indicate whether or not the lid covers at an appointed position. The operation of the device is very simple.
Fluorescent compound, fluorescent compound mixture, freshness marker, freshness label, and sensing system
Disclosed herein is a fluorescent compound represented by the following general formula and having fluorescence characteristics that vary in the presence of a subject substance, ##STR00001##
wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represent a carboxyl group, or a substituent containing a carboxyl group, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a carboxyl group, or a substituent containing a carboxyl group.
Luminescent compositions and applications thereof
In one aspect, methods of sensing are described herein. In some embodiments, a method of sensing includes disposing a fluorophore in a biological environment, wherein the fluorophore includes a dioxo-pyridine ring (DPR) or a thiazolopyridine acid (TPA). The method further includes exposing the biological environment to electromagnetic radiation having a wavelength corresponding to an excitation wavelength of the fluorophore, detecting light emitted by the fluorophore, and correlating the light emitted by the fluorophore to a presence or absence of an analyte within the biological environment in an amount above a minimum detection threshold. The presence of the analyte can increase or decrease the amount of light emitted by the fluorophore. The presence of the analyte may also shift the peak emission wavelength or alter the fluorescence lifetime of the fluorophore. The analyte, in some embodiments, includes hydrogen ions, halide ions, and/or halogens.
