Enabling an authenticated user to access content associated with an authenticated user as though the authenticated user had a selected user relationship with the authenticated user. The user relationship may comprise a relationship degree, a relationship category, a relationship rating, and/or the like. An invitation to join an electronic service, such as an online social network, is sent to the unauthenticated user at an address known to the authenticated user. The invitation includes a time-limited token, such as a URL, that includes an invitation identifier, which relates the invitation to the authenticated user content. The token may be encrypted in the invitation. The unauthenticated user returns the token as a request to preview the authenticated user content without first becoming an authenticated user of the electronic service. If the token is still valid, access is granted. The unauthenticated user may also request to establish a connection with the authenticated user.

Systems and methods are provided for, in response to determining that an election to opt into a privacy policy has not been received from the user (or that an election to opt out of the privacy policy has been received from the user) using limited functionality of a data provider system to select, from a set of candidate data items and using a particular selection criterion (not based on personal information of the user), data items to be transmitted. Techniques described herein enable a service to receive search requests from client systems and perform an integrated search across databases containing informational data for broadcast content and broadband content. The service receives the search request from the client device and formulates a query for at least one broadband database and at least one partner broadcast database. The service queries each broadband database with a compatible query that the service creates using information regarding the type of database queries each partner's database requires. Partners pay the service provider a fee for placing data in the database or for having their database searched by the service. The service formats the data received from the searches of the databases into a user interface screen that is presentable by the client device. The screen information instructs the client device on how it should respond to any key presses by the user.

Systems and methods for generating a playlist on a device for a user of a music service are provided. In embodiments, a method includes initiating an online mode of the music service, where the device is connected to a music service server, and storing, in a cache memory of the device, at least one media object accessed by the user using the music service. The method further includes identifying the at least one media object as satisfying a pre-designated condition, and in response, automatically adding the at least one media object to a playlist stored in the cache memory. The method also includes receiving an indication, via a user interface of the device, to initiate an offline mode of the music service, where the device is not connected to the music service server, and upon initiating the offline mode, enabling playback of the playlist from the cache memory.
