A mobile mining machine includes a plurality of traction elements, a plurality of motors, a power source in electrical communication with the plurality of motors, and an energy storage system in electrical communication with the plurality of motors and the power source. Each of the motors is coupled to an associated one of the plurality of traction elements. Each of the motors is driven by the associated traction element in a first mode, and drives the associated traction element in a second mode. The energy storage system includes a shaft, a rotor secured to the shaft, a stator extending around the rotor, and a flywheel coupled to the shaft for rotation therewith. In the first mode, rotation of the motors causes rotation of the flywheel to store kinetic energy. In the second mode, rotation of the rotor and the flywheel discharges kinetic energy to drive the motors.

Systems and methods for improving operation of a hybrid vehicle are presented. In one example, an engine is stopped to a desired position via slipping a driveline disconnect clutch so that engine starting may be improved.

A hybrid power supply system for an engine is disclosed. The hybrid power supply system includes a sensing unit to generate a signal indicative of a speed of the engine and a controller to determine the speed of the engine based on the signal received from the sensing unit. The controller compares the speed of the engine with a predefined maximum idle speed, and cuts off a supply of fuel to the engine, when the speed of the engine is greater than or equal to the predefined maximum idle speed. The controller shuts off an inlet valve and an exhaust valve associated with a cylinder of the engine. The closure of the inlet valve and the exhaust valve allow compression and expansion of air within the cylinder during supply of a rotational power by a flywheel.

A powertrain is provided with a combustion engine, a front drive axle, a longitudinal drive shaft, and a rear drive axle, whereby the combustion engine is connected to a front drive axle, the longitudinal drive shaft, and the rear drive axle, such that the combustion engine can be in drive connection with the front drive axle, the longitudinal drive shaft, and the rear drive axle. The rear drive axle is provided with a hybrid drive module that comprises at least one drive unit and a transfer gear set. The transfer gear set comprises an input, an output, and a first connection clutch provided operatively in between the input and the output, whereby the output of the transfer gear set is adapted to be in drive connection with the rear drive axle. The longitudinal drive shaft is provided with a second connection clutch and, the first connection clutch and the second connection clutch are hydraulically controlled and are connected to a same hydraulic circuit.

A hybrid vehicle comprises an internal combustion engine, a transmission, at least one driving wheel rotationally connected to the transmission, and a coupling arrangement arranged between the internal combustion engine and the transmission, and controllable between a first state in which a drive shaft of the engine is rotationally connected to the transmission and a second state in which the drive shaft of the engine is rotationally disconnected from the transmission. The vehicle further comprises an energy recovery device connected to the coupling arrangement via a flexible driving member for allowing recovery and storage of energy recovered from deceleration of the at least one driving wheel. The vehicle may further comprise a sensor for sensing a parameter value indicative of desired deceleration, and a control unit for controlling the coupling arrangement to the second state when the sensed parameter value indicates desired deceleration of the hybrid vehicle.

A hybrid power supply system for an engine is disclosed.
