Method and apparatus for purifying air of an interior space by oxidizing a plurality of pollutant compounds

Embodiments generally relate to a method for purifying air of an interior space by oxidizing a plurality of pollutant compounds suspended in the air. The method comprises exposing the air of the interior space to a photocatalytic layer, wherein the photocatalytic layer is disposed onto an at least one surface of a porous substrate material located in the interior space, wherein the photocatalytic layer comprises a plurality of photocatalyst particles, and activating the photocatalytic layer with a light source, wherein the activated photocatalytic particles promote a reaction between the pollutant compounds and the air.

A lamellar arrangement for shielding radiation acting on a fluid which flows through an interior of a device, comprises two or more lamellae aligned substantially parallel to one another and respectively defining an intermediate space between them, wherein at least one subset of the lamellae is respectively subdivided into at least three lamella sections comprising a first lamella section, a second lamella section next to the first lamella section and a third lamella section next to the second lamella section. The first lamella section and the second lamella section in this case enclose a first angle between them, and the second lamella section and the third lamella section enclose a second angle between them. The first angle has a magnitude in a range of from 20° to 45° and the second angle has a magnitude in a range of from 20° to 45°.

The photosensitizer formulation, when in contact with molecular oxygen and activated by light or ultrasound, produces microbicidal singlet oxygen. A variety of different arrangements and applications are described. For example, an air flow device may also be included to generate a flow of air through or over the photosensitizer formulation. A fluorescent formulation may be included to monitor photobleaching. The photosensitizer formulation may be disposed in a concentration gradient to generate antigenic particles by damaging or destroying microbes.
