The present invention provides an extracorporeal dialysis apparatus which allows the automation of some operations in order to make possible a safe home treatment or to facilitate the treatment process for example the priming and/or the blood return process. Thus, the object is to automatically perform a series of processes from hemodialysis preparation to treatment completion safely, reliably and speedily, and to significantly reduce the labor and supply costs.

Peritoneal dialysis machine having a torque limiting device

A peritoneal dialysis machine is provided having a machine housing and a weighing pan for receiving one or more solution bags. The weighing pan is connected to a weighing cell for weight measurement, wherein one or more torque limiting devices are provided which prevent the occurrence of a torque or of a torque exceeding a limit value in the weighing cell. The torque limiting device is configured such that with a torque acting on the weighing pan, it moves the weighing pan such that it comes into contact with the machine housing or with an element connected to the machine housing such that the torque is led off into the machine housing or into the element.

Portable Dialysis Machine

The specification discloses a portable dialysis machine having a detachable controller unit and base unit. The controller unit includes a door having an interior face, a housing with a panel, where the housing and panel define a recessed region configured to receive the interior face of the door, and a manifold receiver fixedly attached to the panel. The base unit has a planar surface for receiving a container of fluid, a scale integrated with the planar surface, a heater in thermal communication with the planar surface, and a sodium sensor in electromagnetic communication with the planar surface. Embodiments of the disclosed portable dialysis system have improved structural and functional features, including improved modularity, ease of use, and safety features.

A peritoneal dialysis system includes a heater, a fresh dialysis fluid heating chamber located above the heater, a used dialysis fluid chamber located above the fresh dialysis fluid heating chamber, a lid, and a pneumatic actuation unit supporting the heater and configured to seal to the lid so that the lid covers the fresh dialysis fluid heating chamber and the used dialysis fluid chamber, the pneumatic actuation chamber configured to apply a vacuum within the lid to remove used dialysis fluid from a patient into the used dialysis fluid chamber.

Peritoneal dialysis machine

A peritoneal dialysis machine has a machine housing and a drain pan for receiving one or more solution bags for storing consumed dialysate. The drain pan is connected to a weighing cell such that the weight of the drain pan can be detected by the weighing cell. A damping system prevents the occurrence of undue force introduction into the weighing cell. The damping system has a damper to which the drain pan is directly or indirectly fastened, and the damper is connected to the weighing cell such that the weight of the drain pan acting thereon is transmitted to the weighing cell.

Systems for performing peritoneal dialysis using vacuum source and weight sensor

A peritoneal dialysis system includes: a drain container; a drain line placed in fluid communication with the drain container and configured to be placed in fluid communication with a patient's peritoneal cavity; a vacuum source configured to apply a pneumatic force to cause used dialysis fluid to flow through the drain line from the patient's peritoneal cavity to the drain container; a weight sensor configured to output a weight of used dialysis fluid delivered to the drain container from the patient's peritoneal cavity; and a controller configured to: (i) determine an actual flow rate of used dialysis fluid removed from the patient's peritoneal cavity based on the output from the weight sensor; (ii) compare the actual flow rate to a desired flow rate; and (iii) adjust the pneumatic force applied by the vacuum source to attempt to match the actual flow rate to the optimal flow rate.
