The peristaltic pump includes a rotor driven to rotate about a rotor axis and a pump casing surrounding the rotor at least in part and including a supporting surface being configured to be curved around the rotor axis, wherein an elastically deformable fluid line is adapted to be positioned between the rotor and the supporting surface and is deformed between the rotor and the supporting surface while forming a cross-sectional constriction for fluid delivery by rotation of the rotor, the pump casing having a modular design and including a supporting surface module forming the supporting surface and a casing module adapted to be coupled to the former and surrounding the rotor at least in part.

A priming sensor for a medical fluid delivery device is disclosed. In an example, the priming sensor includes light emitters and a detector. The detector is configured to detect light emitted by the emitters that interacts with a patient tube connected to the priming sensor. A processor of a medical fluid delivery device causes the emitters to operate in a sweep pattern during a sweep period. The processor receives output data from the detector that is indicative of light detected during the sweep period. The processor creates an output waveform corresponding to the sweep period based on the output data and compares the output waveform to at least one reference waveform to determine one of (a) a no-tube state, (b) a dry tube state, or (c) a wet tube state. The processor provides an output indicative of the comparison for operation of the medical fluid delivery device.

The disposable cartridge includes a dialysate flow path and a blood flow path which flow in opposite directions through a dialyzer. The disposable cartridge further includes a filter for removing waste products from the dialysate as well as one or more flow sensors for measuring the flow of dialysate in the dialysate flow path. The preferred flow sensor includes a rotatable spoked wheel in the dialysate flow path which is rotated by the flow of dialysate. The spoked wheel includes one or more magnets which are rotated with the rotation of the spoked wheel. The flow sensor further includes a magnetic field sensor in the reused dialysis machine which is connected to a processor for monitoring the rotation of the spoked wheel to determine flow of fluid in the dialysate flow path.

The reservoir level sensor assembly includes a vertically extending electrode array for transmitting electrical signals to the processor detecting whether the reservoir possesses sufficient dialysate for therapy, and for detecting whether there is a fault condition during therapy such as a loss of dialysate in the reservoir or an increase in fluid in the reservoir which may indicate a failure in the dialysis membrane.
