The blood treatment device is characterised by a cooling apparatus (19) for cooling at least one of the electrical components (17A), (17B), (17C) of the control system (15), said cooling apparatus using the liquid, in particular permeate (pure water), supplied centrally to the device to dissipate heat from the electrical components. The cooling apparatus (19) has at least one heat sink (21) which can be cooled with a liquid and is in thermal contact with the at least one electrical component (17A), (17B), (17C), wherein the cooling apparatus (19) has at least one inlet (22A) which is fluid-connected to the connection (11) for the inflow of a liquid and at least one outlet (22B) which is fluid-connected to a drain (10), (31).
Dialysis monitors, methods relating to heating of fluids, and use of battery units of dialysis monitors
A dialysis monitor with a treatment fluid path configured to provide treatment fluid to a dialyzer when dialysis treatment is performed by the dialysis monitor is provided. A battery unit is connected to a controller and at least a portion of the functional elements of the dialysis monitor in order to provide back-up power should the supply of external power be discontinued. Energy of the battery unit is used to provide energy to the heater in preparation for and/or at least partly during thermal disinfection of the treatment fluid path or when starting up the preparation of treatment fluid thereby shortening the time required for the thermal disinfection and the starting up of the preparation of treatment fluid, respectively.
Dialysis monitors and methods of operation
Dialysis monitors capable of storing and using thermal energy and methods related thereto are disclosed. Dialysis monitors capable of storing and using disinfection and/or cleaning fluids which was used at an earlier disinfection and/or cleaning event and methods related thereto are also disclosed. Thermally stored energy may, for example, be used for quick thermal disinfection of the fluid path, quick start-up of the preparation of treatment fluid, and as back-up power for continuous preparation of treatment fluid should externally provided power be interrupted.
PERITONEAL DIALYSIS PATIENT LINE WITH STERILIZING FILTER AND DRAIN BYPASS
A medical fluid treatment system includes a source of purified water; at least one concentrate for mixing with the water from the source to form a treatment fluid; a disposable set including a pumping portion, a concentrate line in fluid communication with the concentrate source and the pumping portion, and a patient line in fluid communication with the pumping portion, the patient line including a filter having a membrane configured to filter the treatment fluid, the filter configured such that (i) fresh treatment fluid flowing from the pumping portion towards a patient flows through the membrane and (ii) used treatment fluid flowing through the filter from the patient to the pumping portion bypasses the membrane; and a medical fluid delivery machine including a pump actuator operable with the pumping portion of the disposable set.
SYSTEM AND METHOD TO EFFICIENTLY CLEAN A BLOOD FILTER
A renal therapy apparatus includes a blood filter, a blood pump, a treatment fluid pump, and a control unit configured to control at least one of the blood pump or the treatment fluid pump during a filter cleaning sequence. The blood filter includes a plurality of hollow fiber membranes. During the filter cleaning sequence, a fluid mixture is formed by mixing air with a blood-compatible and physiologically safe fluid. Also during the filter cleaning sequence, the fluid mixture is transferred across insides and/or outsides of the plurality of hollow fiber membranes at least one time. The use of the fluid mixture enables the filter cleaning sequence to be performed during the blood treatment.
MODULAR ASSEMBLY FOR A PORTABLE HEMODIALYSIS SYSTEM
A modular assembly for a portable hemodialysis system may include a dialysis unit, e.g., that contains suitable components for performing hemodialysis, such as a dialyzer, one or more pumps to circulate blood through the dialyzer, a source of dialysate, and one or more pumps to circulate the dialysate through the dialyzer, and a power unit having a housing that contains suitable components for providing operating power to the pumps of the dialysis unit. The power unit may be selectively connected to the dialysis unit and provide power (e.g., pneumatic power in the form of pressure and/or vacuum) to the dialysis unit for the pumps when connected to the dialysis unit, but may be incapable of providing power to the dialysis unit when disconnected from the dialysis unit. The dialysis unit and the power unit are sized and weighted to each be carried by hand by a human.
