Blood set component connection detection

Extracorporeal blood treatment systems and methods to detect the connection of one or more components (e.g., of an extracorporeal blood set) thereto (e.g., to one or more pressure transducers contained in the system housing) by, for example, controlling an air pump apparatus to provide air to a connection port at which the component is to be connected and monitoring pressure resulting therefrom to detect whether the component is operatively connected (e.g., based on a detected change in the monitored pressure due to the increased resistance, based on a monitored rate of decay of pressure of injected air, etc.).

The pneumatic manifold includes a plurality of pneumatic passageways and a plurality of pneumatic connectors. The pump and valve engine includes a plurality of valve chambers, at least one pump chamber, and a plurality of pneumatic connectors mated sealingly and releasably with the pneumatic connectors of the pneumatic manifold. The pump and valve engine also includes a plurality of fluid connectors. The fluid manifold includes a plurality of fluid pathways and a plurality of fluid connectors mated sealingly and releasably with the fluid connectors of the pump and valve engine.

Blood treatment systems and methods

Dialysis systems comprising actuators that cooperate to perform dialysis functions and sensors that cooperate to monitor dialysis functions are disclosed. According to one aspect, such a hemodialysis system comprises a user interface model layer, a therapy layer, below the user interface model layer, and a machine layer below the therapy layer. The user interface model layer is configured to manage the state of a graphical user interface and receive inputs from a graphical user interface. The therapy layer is configured to run state machines that generate therapy commands based at least in part on the inputs from the graphical user interface. The machine layer is configured to provide commands for the actuators based on the therapy commands.

Rotary valves for managing fluid flows in medical systems

In one aspect, a valve includes a valve body rotatable about a central axis of the valve body, an interior channel adjacent the valve body for permitting a fluid to flow through an axial opening of the interior channel, and a plug within the interior channel that is movable between a first axial position at the axial opening and a second axial position spaced apart from the axial opening. In the first axial position, the plug closes the axial opening to prevent the fluid from flowing through the axial opening in a first direction and to prevent the fluid from flowing through the axial opening in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction. In the second axial position, the plug permits the fluid to flow through the axial opening into the interior channel in the first direction.
