Extended use medical device

Provided is an extended use self-contained, wearable medical device. The device is preferably configured with an infusion deployment mechanism for variably inserting and retracting an infusion needle to different depths, or completely retracting the infusion needle from the infusion site and then re-inserting the infusion needle after a predetermined period of time, throughout an infusion cycle for extending the viability of the infusion site. Another embodiment comprises dual needle deployment mechanisms which may also variably insert and retract the infusion needles. A flow sensor is preferably provided for detecting the stoppage of flow through the infusion cannula and signaling the needle deployment mechanism to attempt infusion at a different depth or to deploy a second infusion needle. A re-fillable reservoir assembly is preferably provided for supplying a drug over the extended use of the device. Another embodiment comprises a partially reusable and partially disposable medical device implementing the above features.

DELIVERY DEVICE

A delivery device for administering a drug includes a housing, a reservoir and a drive device with a movable piston rod. The piston rod is guided through an aperture in an inner or outer wall of the housing. The aperture is sealed but allows the piston rod to move. The shape of the circumference of the cross-section of the piston rod is approximately a non-trivial curve of constant width.

Fluid delivery systems and methods

A method of dispensing fluid includes three processes. A first one of these processes includes pumping fluid into a resilient variable-volume dispensing chamber. The dispensing chamber is in series with a normally present finite fluid impedance and an output. The impedance is sufficient so as to cause expansion of the dispensing chamber as it receives pumped fluid even while some fluid flows through the output. Another one of these processes includes repeatedly measuring a parameter related to volume of the dispensing chamber over time. A third one of these processes includes controlling the pumping of fluid based on repeated measurements of the parameter to produce a desired fluid flow through the output. A corresponding system for dispensing fluid implements these processes.

A device for infusing liquid medicaments such as insulin includes an infusion pump. The device can modify a medicament delivery protocol stored in memory to delivery an alternative medicament delivery protocol with the pump.

Disposable pump chamber for an infusion pump

An apparatus, including a pump body having an internal shaft, and a piston disposed within the shaft and having a piston head that includes a first ferromagnetic element. The apparatus also includes a motor coupled to drive a reciprocal longitudinal motion of the piston within the shaft, and a pump chamber configured to be removably attached to the pump body and having a rigid wall defining a fluid inlet, a fluid outlet, and an aperture. The apparatus additionally includes a flexible diaphragm fixed across the aperture and having a second ferromagnetic element, which engages the first ferromagnetic element when the pump chamber is attached to the pump body so that the reciprocal longitudinal motion of the piston causes alternating stretching and contraction of the flexible diaphragm, thereby modifying a volume of the pump chamber.

Patch pump systems and apparatus for managing diabetes, and methods thereof

Embodiments of the current disclosure are directed toward systems, devices and methods for diabetes management. In particular, the present disclosure relates to systems, devices and methods for dispensing insulin to a patient using a miniaturized and portable patch pump.

Ambulatory device and components thereof

Certain embodiments provide multi-medicament or single medicament infusion systems for preventing the cross-channeling or improper delivery of medicaments. The system may include one or more of an infusion pump, medicament cartridges, cartridge connectors, a multi-channel fluid conduit, and an infusion set. The medicament cartridges may be sized and shaped differently such that the medicament reservoirs can only be inserted into the pump under selected configurations.

Drug delivery assembly including a pre-filled cartridge

A drug delivery assembly includes a main body and a cartridge. The body includes a housing, an adhesive pad, and a body interface that detachably associates with a cartridge interface of the cartridge. A fluid flow path extends through the body housing, between a first end configured to open a seal of the cartridge and a second end configured to enter a human body. The cartridge contains a drug reservoir having an outlet and holding a medicament. The seal prevents the medicament from exiting the reservoir and maintains pressure within the reservoir until the seal is opened by the first end of the fluid flow path when the cartridge is coupled to the main body, placing the reservoir into fluid communication with the flow path. A controller actuates a valve within the body to selectively allow and prevent flow through the flow path during an automated drug delivery routine.
