In an embodiment, the weight of the neck portion is 3.0 grams or less; and the vertical distance from the top of the dispensing opening to the lower surface of the support flange, including the threads and the tamper-evident formation, is 0.580 inches or less. A container and method for making a container are also disclosed.
Bimodal polyethylene for injection stretch blow moulding applications
A polyethylene resin having a multimodal molecular weight distribution comprising at least two polyethylene fractions A and B, fraction A being substantially free of comonomer and having a lower weight average molecular weight and a higher density than fraction B, each fraction prepared in different reactors of two reactors connected in series in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system, the polyethylene resin having a density of from 0.950 to 0.965 g/cm.sup.3 and a melt index MI2 of from 0.5 to 5 g/10 min.
Transparent thermoplastic polyamide container
Disclosed is a transparent thermoplastic container including a thermoplastic composition including: A) a polyamide resin including a) 10 to 40 mol % of a first repeat unit of formula (I), ##STR00001## and b) 60 to 90 mol % of a second repeat unit selected from the group consisting of formula (II)
C(O)(CH.sub.2).sub.nC(O)NH(CH.sub.2).sub.6NH(II); wherein n is an integer selected from 10, 12, and 14; and the mol % of repeat units are based on the total repeat units present in the copolyamide; optionally, B) an aliphatic homopolyamide having one repeat unit selected from the group of formula (II) and C) a functional additive.
Polyamide, composition comprising such a polyamide, and uses thereof
The invention relates to a polyamide comprising at least one repeat unit corresponding to the general formulation: X.Math.Y in which: X represents a cycloaliphatic diamine and Y represents an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid chosen from dodecanedioic (C.sub.12) acid, tetradecanedioic (C.sub.14) acid and hexadecanedioic (C.sub.16) acid, characterized in that said dicarboxylic acid comprises organic carbon of renewable origin, determined according to Standard ASTM D6866. The invention also relates to a composition comprising this polyamide and also to the use of this polyamide and of such a composition.
Polyester sealant film, laminate and package
The invention provides a polyester sealant film having at least one of a heat sealing layer and a heat resistant layer, wherein each layer consists of a polyester component containing ethylene terephthalate. The polyester sealant film has (1) a heat sealing strength of the heat sealing layers of 8-20 N/15 mm; (2) a difference in reversible heat capacity (Cp) for the heat sealing layer of 0.5-1.1 J/g/K; (3) a Cp for the heat resistant layer of 0.1 to less than 0.6 J/g/K; (4) a fold holding angle of 20-60 degrees; (5) a smaller curvature radius of 50-300 mm in a longitudinal or widthwise direction; and (6) a heat shrinkage ratio of 5% to 5% in both longitudinal and widthwise directions. The invention also provides a laminate comprising at least one layer of the polyester sealant and a packaging bag comprising the laminate.
Preform for producing plastic containers in a stretch-blow-moulding process
A preform is disclosed for the production of plastic containers, for example plastic bottles, in a stretch-blow-molding method. The preform can include an elongated preform body having a closed longitudinal end and which connects on an opposite longitudinal end to a neck section having a pour opening, the neck section having an outside wall with a fastening means. A rotating flange at a transition from the preform body to the neck section, wherein at least a portion of the rotating flange is annular and radially extends above an outside wall of the preform body. A peripheral annular groove can extend obliquely from a base of the annular groove to the outside wall of the neck section forming a circumferential inner collar, and wherein the inner collar the direction of the preform body, extends axially above the annular groove and extends into an inside wall of the preform body.
Dynamically Vulcanized Polyarylene Sulfide Composition
Polyarylene sulfide compositions are described that exhibit high strength and flexibility. Methods for forming the polyarylene sulfide compositions are also described. Formation methods include dynamic vulcanization of a polyarylene sulfide composition that includes an impact modifier dispersed throughout the polyarylene sulfide. A crosslinking agent is combined with the other components of the composition following dispersal of the impact modifier throughout the composition. The crosslinking agent reacts with the impact modifier to form crosslinks within and among the polymer chains of the impact modifier. The compositions can exhibit excellent physical characteristics at extreme temperatures and can be used to form, e.g., tubular member such as pipes and hoses and fibers.
Preform extended finish for processing light weight ecologically beneficial bottles
Disclosed are preforms which incorporate improvements in the region of the neck and upper segment of the body to allow the production of lightweight containers, such as bottles suitable for containing water or other beverages. In accordance with certain embodiments, the improvements include a thinner neck finish area than conventional bottles, where the thinner area is extended into the upper segment of the body portion below the support ring. Reducing the thickness in these areas of the bottle allows for less resin to be used in forming the preform and bottle.
