A multilayer protective tape for rotor blades of wind energy turbines said tape having a protective top layer comprising a polymer film and an adhesive bottom layer, wherein the top layer has a continuous surface (S) that is outwardly curved or outwardly trapezoidal surface such that the tape has a cross-sectional profile having an inner section between two lateral sections and wherein the inner section has a thickness (Ti) made up by the thickness of the top layer and adhesive bottom layer that is greater than the thickness of at least one of the lateral sections (T1,T2) made up by the thickness of the top layer and adhesive bottom layer and wherein the thickness (T1 or T2) of at least one lateral section is at most 600 μm and the thickness of the inner section (Ti) is at least 330 μm. Also provided are processes for making profiled tapes and methods for applying the tapes to rotor blades and blades containing protective tapes.

Patterned air-laid nonwoven fibrous webs and methods of making and using same

Nonwoven fibrous webs including randomly oriented discrete fibers defining a multiplicity of non-hollow projections extending from a major surface of the nonwoven fibrous web (as considered without the projections), and a plurality of substantially planar land areas formed between each adjoining projection in a plane defined by and substantially parallel with the major surface. In some exemplary embodiments, the randomly oriented discrete fibers include multi-component fibers having at least a first region having a first melting temperature and a second region having a second melting temperature, wherein the first melting temperature is less than the second melting temperature. At least a portion of the oriented discrete fibers are bonded together at a plurality of intersection points with the first region of the multi-component fibers. In certain embodiments, the patterned air-laid nonwoven fibrous webs include particulates. Methods of making and using such patterned air-laid nonwoven fibrous webs are also disclosed.

Highly electrically conductive surfaces for electrochemical applications
09765421 · 2017-09-19 · ·

A method is described that can be used in electrodes for electrochemical devices and includes disposing a precious metal on a top surface of a corrosion-resistant metal substrate. The precious metal can be thermally sprayed onto the surface of the corrosion-resistant metal substrate to produce multiple metal splats. The thermal spraying can be based on a salt solution or on a metal particle suspension. A separate bonding process can be used after the metal splats are deposited to enhance the adhesion of the metal splats to the corrosion-resistant metal substrate. The surface area associated with the splats of the precious metal is less than the surface area associated with the top surface of the corrosion-resistant metal substrate. The thermal spraying rate can be controlled to achieve a desired ratio of the surface area of the metal splats to the surface area of the corrosion-resistant metal substrate.
