An erosion resistant article such as rotor blades for helicopters and wind turbines having the leading edge surface protected from damage from high speed impingement of rain or sand with a protective coating formed from specific polyurethane or polyurea coating having a defined set of minimum physical properties where the protective coating can be applied as a liquid coating and cured in place or as a preformed complementary shaped covering to protect the leading edge against erosion damage in service.

ARTICLES HAVING RETAINED STRENGTH

One or more aspects of the disclosure pertain to an article including a film disposed on a glass substrate, which may be strengthened, where the interface between the film and the glass substrate is modified, such that the article retains its average flexural strength, and the film retains key functional properties for its application. Some key functional properties of the film include optical, electrical and/or mechanical properties. The bridging of a crack from one of the film or the glass substrate into the other of the film or the glass substrate can be prevented by inserting a crack mitigating layer between the glass substrate and the film.

Structural reinforcement system

Disclosed are various embodiments of a structural reinforcement system. The system reinforces hollow cavities within various products to increase the structural rigidity of the product. The system generally includes a rigid carrier, a bonding material, and an insert. The rigid carrier provides the primary structural reinforcement within the cavity, and also serves as a substrate to carry the bonding material. The insert is provided to increase the structural rigidity of the reinforcement system.

STEEL SHEET

A steel sheet including an inner layer and a hard layer at one or both surfaces of the inner layer wherein the hard layer and the inner layer have predetermined compositions, each hard layer has a thickness of 20 m or more and of the total sheet thickness or less, the hard layer has an average micro-Vickers hardness of 400 HV or more and less than 700 HV, the hard layer has an N amount of 0.02% or less, the inner layer has an average micro-Vickers hardness of 80 HV or more and less than 400 HV, the inner layer has a carbide volume ratio of less than 2.00%, and the hard layer has a nanohardness standard deviation of 2.00 or less is provided.

THERMALLY CONDUCTIVE AND PROTECTIVE COATING FOR ELECTRONIC DEVICE
20200019750 · 2020-01-16 · ·

A protective coating layer, an electronic device including such a protective coating layer, and the methods of making the same are provided. The electronic device includes a substrate, a thin film circuit layer disposed over the substrate, and a protective coating layer disposed over the thin film circuit layer. The protective coating layer includes a first coating and a second coating disposed over the first coating. Each coating has a cross-plane thermal conductivity in a direction normal to a respective coating surface equal to or higher than 0.5 W/(m*K). The first coating and the second coating have different crystal structures, or different crystalline orientations, or different compositions, or a combination thereof to provide different nanoindentation hardness. The first coating has a hardness lower than that of the second coating.

Functional sheet and lens using same

According to the present invention, a functional sheet, comprising a polarizing or photochromic functional layer and protective layers provided on both surfaces of the functional layer can be provided. The protective layers include an aromatic polycarbonate resin sheet or film. At least one of the protective layers is a co-extruded sheet or film including an aromatic polycarbonate resin layer and an acrylic-based resin layer provided on one surface or both surfaces of the aromatic polycarbonate resin layer. At least one surface of the functional sheet is of the acrylic-based resin layer. Also according to the present invention, a lens using such a functional sheet can be provided.

HOT STAMPED BODY

There is provided a hot stamped body including a middle part in sheet thickness and a surface layer arranged at both sides or one side of the middle part in sheet thickness, further including an intermediate layer formed between the middle part in sheet thickness and each surface layer so as to adjoin them, wherein the middle part in sheet thickness has a predetermined composition, the middle part in sheet thickness has a hardness of 500 Hv or more and 800 Hv or less, the surface layer has a hardness change H.sub.1 in the sheet thickness direction of 10 Hv or more and less than 200 Hv, and the intermediate layer has a hardness change H.sub.2 in the sheet thickness direction of 50 Hv or more and less than 200 Hv.

Coatings for fluid energy device components

A coated component for use in a fluid energy device includes a coating system with multiple layers of coating material, including a soft material such as a polymer coated over a hard material such as a metal. The fluid energy device can be a fluid motor or fluid pump, and the coated component can be a rotor or a stator. The hard and soft materials may be interlocked with each other and/or with an interposed porous layer. The presence of the soft material can reduce or eliminate the need for meticulous polishing operations typically required with as-applied hard materials while improving the longevity of mating fluid energy device components. The mating components are exposed only to the soft material in the initial stages of operation, after which the soft material wears away to gradually expose the mating components to the hard material in a less abrasive manner.

Articles with a low-elastic modulus layer and retained strength

One or more aspects of the disclosure pertain to an article including a film disposed on a glass substrate, which may be strengthened, where the interface between the film and the glass substrate is modified, such that the article has an improved average flexural strength, and the film retains key functional properties for its application. Some key functional properties of the film include optical, electrical and/or mechanical properties. The bridging of a crack from one of the film or the glass substrate into the other of the film or the glass substrate can be suppressed by inserting a nanoporous crack mitigating layer between the glass substrate and the film.
