Carbon fiber-nanoparticle composites with electromechanical properties
A carbon fiber composite material comprising: (i) a carbon fiber having an outer surface, a thickness of at least 1 micron, and an aspect ratio of at least 1000; (ii) a sizing agent coated on the outer surface of the carbon fiber, wherein the sizing agent has a thickness of up to 200 nm; and (iii) nanoparticles having a size in at least one dimension of up to 100 nm embedded within the sizing agent, wherein the nanoparticles have a metal carbide, metal oxide, metal nitride, and/or metal boride composition. A method for producing the fiber composite material comprises: (a) continuously feeding and coating a continuous carbon fiber with a liquid containing a solvent, sizing agent, and nanoparticles in a continuous feed-through process to result in said sizing agent and nanoparticles coating the surface of the continuous carbon fiber; and (b) removing the solvent from the coated fiber.
Polymer fibre having improved dispersibility
The invention relates to a polymer fibre with improved dispersibility, a method for producing said fibre and the use of said fibre. The polymer fibre according to the invention comprises at least one synthetic polymer and 0.1 and 20 wt. % of a silicone. The polymer forming the fibre forms a solid dispersion medium at room temperature (25° C.) for the silicone present in solid form also at room temperature (25° C.) which forms the more disperse phase. The polymer fibre according to the invention possesses an improved dispersibility and is therefore suitable for producing aqueous suspensions which are used, for example, in the formation of textile fabrics, e.g. nonwovens.
Insulated wire
The present invention aims to provide and insulated wire having an insulation layer which is excellent in insulation properties and has a low dielectric constant. The insulated wire of the present invention includes a conductor (A) and an insulation layer (B) formed around the periphery of the conductor (A). The insulation layer (B) is formed from a resin composition containing an aromatic polyether ketone resin (I) and a fluororesin (II). The fluororesin (II) is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and a perfluoroethylenic unsaturated compound represented by the following formula (1):
CF.sub.2═CF—Rf.sup.1 (1)
wherein Rf.sup.1 represents —CF.sub.3 or —ORf.sup.2, and Rf.sup.2 is a C1-C5 perfluoroalkyl group. The aromatic polyether ketone resin (I) and the fluororesin (II) satisfy a melt viscosity ratio (I)/(II) of 0.3 to 5.0.
Bicomponent spandex with reduced friction
Disclosed herein are spandex fibers having reduced friction. The spandex fibers have a sheath-core cross-section with a lubricating additive is included in the sheath. A fusing additive is optionally included where a coalesced multifilament spandex yarn is desired.
Securing the authenticity of value documents by means of characteristic substances
A feature substance is provided for securing the authenticity of documents of value, having at least one luminescent substance in particle form and nanoparticles enveloping the surfaces of the luminescent substance particles at least partially, wherein the properties of the feature substance result from the interaction of the properties of the luminescent substance and of the nanoparticles. The invention furthermore relates to a method for producing the feature substance, a method for securing the authenticity of a security element or document of value using a feature substance, as well as security elements and documents of value with authenticity features on the basis of the feature substance.
POLYMER FIBRE HAVING IMPROVED DISPERSIBILITY

CORE-SHELL MORPHOLOGY OF COMPOSITE FILAMENTS FOR USE IN EXTRUSION-BASED ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS
A consumable filament for use in an extrusion-based additive manufacturing system, where the consumable filament comprises a core portion of a matrix of a first base polymer and particles dispersed within the matrix, and a shell portion comprising a same or a different base polymer. The consumable filament is configured to be melted and extruded to form roads of a plurality of solidified layers of a three-dimensional part, and where the roads at least partially retain cross-sectional profiles corresponding to the core portion and the shell portion of the consumable filament and retain the particles within the roads of the printed part and do not penetrate the outer surface of the shell portion.
Method of reinforcement for additive manufacturing
Materials and methods is present for manufacturing fiber reinforced parts. A powder material comprising a matrix material of a size particular distribution comprising substantially oriented fiber of a predetermined length distribution and diameter (L/D). A manufactured part that has substantially randomly oriented fiber is provided using an energy delivery system and the powder material.
