A diagnostic system to aid in diagnosing conditions underneath a subject's skin that predict intravascular device failure is provided. The diagnostic system includes an ultrasound unit that uses ultrasonic energy to obtain images underneath the subject's skin surrounding the insertion site of an intravascular device. The ultrasound unit is in electronic communication with a computing device that collects and stores data generated by the ultrasound unit. The computing device utilizes machine learning or artificial intelligence techniques to identify conditions underneath the subject's skin that predict intravascular device failure, and through a user interface, indicates to the user that subcutaneous conditions predictive of intravascular device failure are present.

MEDICAL FLUID INJECTION APPARATUS AND METHOD WITH REUSABLE PATCH

Provided herein are systems and methods for monitoring one or more health or physiological parameters in a subject. The systems and methods may comprise a reusable patch coupled to an injector. Data may be transmitted to a mobile device or remote server, where the data may be processed. Processed data may be used to inform a subject on a health or physiological condition.

Hand-held device for inserting a needle into a non-homogeneous material

A hand-held device is provided for precisely positioning a needle tip at a desired target position into a non-homogeneous material, including a blood vessel. The hand-held device includes a casing hand-held by an operator, a shaft extending along a longitudinal axis and carrying the needle, the shaft mounted in the casing and coupled to the casing to move as a single piece therewith along the longitudinal axis. The hand-held device further includes a sensor unit to provide signals indicative of a physical characteristic of the material wherein the needle tip has to be inserted, and a control unit configured to determine, based on the signals received from the sensor unit, whether the needle tip has reached the target position and to operate a decoupling unit to decouple the shaft and the needle from the casing or to operate an actuating unit to actively move the shaft relative to the casing.

Selectively Controlling Fluid Flow Through a Fluid Pathway

Systems and methods for controlling fluid delivery via a manually administrable medication container to a patient through a fluid delivery pathway are provided. The systems and methods described herein incorporate rules-based clinical decision support logic to drive a flow control valve within a flow pathway based on a determination of whether or not an IV fluid connected to an input port on the pathway is appropriate for patient administration by considering such factors as patient-specific clinical circumstances, current medical orders, and accepted delivery protocols. Related apparatus, systems, methods and articles are also described.

Optical blood detection system

The present invention relates to an optical blood detector system that rapidly detects the presence of blood due to a blood leak in a system. The blood detector system contains a reusable blood sensor that is able to accurately detect the presence of blood in, for example, an extracorporeal blood treatment system by optically sensing light from a sensing region and determining if the light came from a leaked blood. The blood sensor may be responsive to reflected light or light emitted from blood due to bio-fluorescence excited by a light source in the blood detector system. The blood detector system can be placed against absorbent material adjacent to an intravenous needle injection site and quickly detect any blood wicked into the absorbent material. The blood detector system can eliminate the need for medical personnel to continuously inspect numerous patients visually for potentially fatal blood leaks due to needle dislodgement.

Nutritional support feeding efficiency

There is provided a method comprising: computing a target nutritional goal to reach at an end of a time interval based on a real time energy expenditure of a patient, wherein the target nutritional goal comprises a volume to be delivered (VTBD) by the end of the time interval corresponding to a target amount of energy expenditure of the patient over the time interval, computing a target feeding profile defining a target feeding rate for enteral feeding of the patient for reaching the VTBD by the end of the time interval, continuously monitoring the real time energy expenditure, adapting the target nutritional goal and corresponding VTBD to compute a maximum VTBD to reach at the end of the time interval according to the monitoring, and dynamically adapting the target feeding rate and the corresponding target feeding profile for a remaining portion of the time interval for reaching the maximum VTBD.

Clinical assessment of an intravenous catheter site

A system and method for assessing an intravenous catheter site is described in embodiments herein. An application accessible on a mobile device may be used to take calibrated photographs of an intravenous catheter site. The resulting calibrated image may be compared to previously taken calibrated images to determine a complication. Success of treatments to the complication may be tracked and the patient's electronic medical record may be updated.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INFUSION SET DISLODGEMENT DETECTION

A portable insulin pump can utilize readings from a sensor incorporated into an infusion set used with the pump to deliver insulin to a patient to determine if the infusion set is or is likely to become dislodged from the patient. Readings from the sensor that are inconsistent with expected readings or a range of expected readings can indicate that the infusion set has become dislodged from the patient.
