SENSING SYSTEM FOR DETECTING A PISTON IN A MEDICAL FLUID CONTAINER

A sensing system for determining a position of a plunger within a fluid container. The sensing system includes a light source, a light detector and a controller. The light source is configured to emit light into a barrel wall of the fluid container so that the barrel wall serves as a waveguide to guide the light to travel therein in an axial direction. The light detector is positioned to detect reflected light that was emitted by the light source, traveled through the barrel wall serving as the waveguide, and then reflected off a surface of the plunger. The controller is in communication with the light detector to determine an axial position of the plunger surface based on data from the light detector of the detected reflected light.

The leaf spring member (3) is designed for contacting the flexible medicine reservoir (6) and for providing that changes in the fill level of the flexible medicine reservoir (6) effect changes of the form of the leaf spring member (3). A detector (5) is arranged for detecting the effected changes of the form of the leaf spring member (3) and for enabling measuring of the fill level of the flexible medicine reservoir (6).

Pharmaceutical injection device

The pharmaceutical injection device includes a pharmaceutical syringe mounting portion (3) provided within a main body case (2) and to which a pharmaceutical syringe (4) is removably mounted, a piston (5) provided movably with respect to the pharmaceutical syringe (4) mounted to the pharmaceutical syringe mounting portion (3), a drive mechanism (6) for driving the piston (5), a controller (7) that is electrically connected to the drive mechanism (6), a display section (35) that is connected to the controller (7), and an encoder (26) that is connected to the controller (7) and detects the amount of the pharmaceutical remaining inside the pharmaceutical syringe (4). The controller (7) displays a warning on the display section (35) recommending removal of the pharmaceutical syringe (4) from the pharmaceutical syringe mounting portion (3) when the presence of a pharmaceutical is detected by the encoder (26).

Fluid interconnection scheme between reservoir, pump and filling member

A filling member (43) in a medicament delivery device (1), the filling member (43) includes a first conduit (12) that fluidly communicates with a reservoir (4) and a second conduit (14) that fluidly communicates with a pump (3) and with the first conduit (12), wherein the filling member (43) provides two-way medicament flow that enters the reservoir (4) via the first conduit (12), exits the reservoir (4) into the first conduit (12) and the second conduit (14), and exits the second conduit (14) to the pump (3). The reservoir (4) includes a reservoir tube (44A) having one end that is formed with the reservoir (4), and the reservoir tube (44A) having another end that is press fit to the filling member (43) to establish fluid communication with the reservoir (4).

Selectively controlling fluid flow through a fluid pathway

Systems and methods for controlling fluid delivery via a manually administrable medication container to a patient through a fluid delivery pathway are provided. The systems and methods described herein incorporate rules-based clinical decision support logic to drive a flow control valve within a flow pathway based on a determination of whether or not an IV fluid connected to an input port on the pathway is appropriate for patient administration by considering such factors as patient-specific clinical circumstances, current medical orders, and accepted delivery protocols. Related apparatus, systems, methods and articles are also described.

Drug infusion device with controllable valve

A therapeutic fluid delivery device that includes at least one controllable valve is generally described. In one example, an implantable therapeutic fluid delivery system includes a first fluid pathway configured to convey a first therapeutic fluid and a second fluid pathway configured to convey a second therapeutic fluid, the second fluid pathway being separate from the first fluid pathway. The therapeutic fluid delivery system includes a valve connected to the first fluid pathway and the second fluid pathway, and a processor configured to control actuation of the valve to open and close the first fluid pathway and to open and close the second fluid pathway.

DEVICE FOR ATTACHMENT TO A PORTABLE LIQUID INJECTION DEVICE

The invention refers to a device for attachment to a portable liquid injection device, wherein said device is designed to enclose the drug reservoir of the injection device completely. Further, said device has at least two flat conductive electrodes enabling an electrical field to be applied across the entire volume of the drug reservoir of the injection device. In particular, the portable liquid injection device is a so-called insulin pen, i.e. a portable liquid injection device which is used to inject insulin for the treatment of diabetes. The inventive device preferably is in the form of a cap, in particular in the form of a cap of an insulin pen.

MONITORING UPSTREAM FLOW CHARACTERISTICS FOR A PUMP

A system for monitoring upstream flow characteristics for a pump is provided. The system may receive one or more outputs from a fluid level sensor coupled with a pump. The system may detect based on at least the one or more outputs, an abnormal upstream flow condition in the pump, such as a full upstream occlusion in the tube, a partial upstream occlusion in the tube, an empty reservoir, and/or a backflow of the fluid into the drip chamber. The system may adjust, based on the detection of an abnormal upstream flow condition in the pump, operation of the pump.
