BISPHENOL A AND AROMATIC GLYCIDYL ETHER-FREE COATINGS

Disclosed are Bisphenol A (BPA), Bisphenol F, Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE), and Bisphenol F diglycidyl ether (BFDGE)-free coating compositions for metal substrates including an under-coat composition containing a polyester (co)polymer, and an under-coat cross-linker; and an over-coat composition containing a poly(vinyl chloride) (co)polymer dispersed in a substantially nonaqueous carrier liquid, an over-coat cross-linker, and a functional (meth)acrylic (co)polymer. Also provided is a method of coating a metal substrate using the BPA, BPF, BADGE and BFDGE-free coating system to produce a hardened protective coating useful in fabricating metal storage containers. The coated substrate is particularly useful in fabricating multi-part foodstuffs storage containers with easy-open end closures.

IMPROVED POLYESTER/PRIMER/METAL COMPOSITE FILM THAT IS COHESIVE AND IMPERMEABLE TO GAS, METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF AND THE PRIMER UTILIZED IN SAID METHOD

The aim of the invention is to provide polyester/primer/metallic coating composite films having good adherence of the metallic coating in dry and humid conditions. Said films also form a good gas barrier: oxygen permeability less than or equal to 0.8 cc/m2/d; water vapour permeability less than or equal to 0.3 g/m2/d. To this end, the invention concerns a composite film comprising a polyester substrate, at least one coating adhering on at least one of the faces of the substrate and at least one layer of primer for cross-linked adhesion between the substrate and the coating. Said primer comprises at least one acrylic and/or methacrylic polymer P1, at least one acrylic and/or methacrylic polymer P2 different from P1, at least one cross-linking agent, and, preferably, at least one polyester that is soluble or dispersible in water: P1 having a gel content TG1>70% by dry weight with respect to P1; P2 having a gel content TG2TG1 and 20% by dry weight, with respect to P2; P1 having a surface-grafted free weak acid content >0.8 in meq/g of polymer; [P2]60% by weight on dry by weight in respect to P1+P2. The method for producing said film, the adhering primer, and the articles obtained using said film, also form part of the present invention.

Coating composition and articles made therefrom

The instant invention provides an aqueous dispersion, a coating composition, coating layers and coated article made therefrom. The coating composition according to the present invention comprises: (1) the inventive aqueous dispersion comprising the melt blending product of: (a) from 50 to 99 percent by weight of one or more first polyesters, based on the total solid content of the dispersion, wherein said one or more first polyesters have an acid number in the range of from less than 15, for example less than 10, or in the alternative less than 5, based on the total solid content of the one or more first polyesters; (b) from 1 to 50 percent by weight of one or more stabilizing agents comprising at least one second polyester, based on the total solid content of the dispersion, wherein said second polyester has a carboxylic acid group and an acid number equal to or greater than 15, for example greater than 20, based on the solid content of the second polyester; (c) one or more neutralizing agents; and (d) from 15 to 90 percent by weight of water, based on the total weight of the dispersion; wherein said dispersion has a solid content of 10 to 85 percent, based on the total weight of the dispersion; and (2) one or more cross-linking agents.

IMPACT-RESISTANT POLYESTER PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE

Polyester pressure-sensitive adhesives are described. The polyester includes at least two different diacid residues and at least two different diol residues. The polyester includes at least one pendant group containing an alkenyl group. A ratio of a total number of the at least one pendant group to the total number of ester groups in the polyester is in a range of 0.001 to 0.1. The polyester has a glass transition temperature in a range of 50 C. to 10 C.

The invention relates to a polymer material comprising a mixture of: a base polylactic acid (PLA) polymer formed by between 60 wt.-% and 85 wt.-% L units and between 15 wt.-% and 40 wt.-% D units or between 60 wt.-% and 85 wt.-% D units and between 15 wt.-% and 40 wt.-% L units; and a plasticizer selected from the group containing citric acid esters, glycerin esters and derivatives, poly(alkylene ethers), oligomers of lactide or derivatives of lactic acid, fatty acid esters and epoxidized oils, representing between 10 wt.-% and 40 wt.-% in relation to the total weight of the polymer material.

A curable film-forming composition is provided, comprising: (a) a polymeric polyester binder comprising a plurality of carbamate groups; (b) a curing agent reactive with the carbamate functional groups of (a); and (c) a reaction product of: (1) a hydroxyl functional polymer comprising the reaction product of: (i) a monomer comprising at least two ethylenically unsaturated double bonds; (ii) a monomer comprising a carbon atom that is bonded to four moieties wherein one of the moieties is a hydrogen atom and the remainder of the moieties comprises an alkyl group, wherein at least one of the alkyl group-containing moieties comprises an ethylenically unsaturated double bond; and (iii) at least one monomer that is polymerizable with (i) and (ii); and (2) a lactone or lactam. Also provided are a multi-component composite coating composition that includes the curable film-forming composition described above and methods for forming a composite coating on a substrate.

Coating Composition for Metal Substrates

The present invention provides novel packaging articles, e.g., food and beverage cans. Preferred cans typically comprise a body portion and an end portion, wherein at least one of the body and end portions are aluminum and are coated on at least one major surface with a coating composition of the present invention. Suitable coating compositions of the present invention comprise: one or more polyester resins, wherein at least one of the polyester resins has a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) less than about 50 C., and wherein the polyester resin is formed by the reaction of one or more polyacid molecules and one or more polyol molecules; and a crosslinker. Preferred compositions are substantially free of mobile BPA and aromatic glycidyl ether compounds, e.g., BADGE, BFDGE and epoxy novalacs (e.g., NOGE) and more preferred compositions are also substantially free of bound BPA and aromatic glycidyl ether compounds. In more preferred embodiments (e.g., alcoholic beverage cans), the polyol molecules used to make the polyester resin are substantially free of NPG. The present invention also provides a method of making such cans.
