Autoinjector with retracting needle
An automatic drug delivery device is described, comprising: a housing (1); a skin sensor element (15) coupled to the housing and movable relative to the housing, wherein the skin sensor element is biased into a front position relative to the housing and is movable to a rear position relative to the housing when the skin sensor element is pressed against an injection site; a needle assembly comprising a hypodermic needle (11), the hypodermic needle extending outside of the housing when the device is in a needle insertion configuration; a drug delivery mechanism comprising a stored energy source (4), within the housing; wherein the drug delivery mechanism is released when the skin sensor element is moved from the front position towards the rear position and wherein the stored energy source is arranged to expand along an axis that is offset from an axis of travel of the needle assembly in use; a needle retraction mechanism configured to withdraw the hypodermic needle into the housing when the needle retraction mechanism is released; wherein the needle retraction mechanism is coupled to the skin sensor element such that when the skin sensor element is moved from the rear position towards the front position, and the needle is in the needle insertion position, the needle retraction mechanism is released.
Injector Device
An injector device comprising an elongate housing having a proximal end and a distal end, and configured to receive a container of medicament, a needle sleeve mounted within the housing and moveable between an extended position in which the needle sleeve at least partially extends from the distal end of the housing, and a retracted position in which the needle sleeve is received further within the housing than in the extended position, a piston rod moveable longitudinally within the housing, a piston spring configured to bias the piston rod towards a distal end of the housing to engage a container of medicament when received within the housing, and a release mechanism configured to control actuation of the piston rod. The release mechanism comprises a locking arm moveable between a locked position in which the locking arm is in cooperating engagement with the piston rod and prevents movement of the piston rod, and a release position in which the locking arm is out of engagement with the piston rod so that the piston rod is free to move longitudinally within the housing. The needle sleeve is configured such that movement of the needle sleeve from the extended position to the retracted position causes the locking arm to move from the locked position to the release position.
Injection needle assembly
An injection needle assembly is presented having an injection needle; a tubular needle holder having distal engagement means and proximal engagement means; a tubular cap having proximal outer engagement means and proximal inner engagement means; a tubular needle cover having first engagement means arranged to cooperate with the proximal engagement means, and second engagement means arranged to cooperate with the proximal outer engagement means of the cap. A needle cover is arranged to be displaced from a first position wherein the second engagement means and the proximal outer engagement means prevents the needle cover and the needle holder to be axially displaced by a linear displacement, to a second position wherein the needle cover and the needle holder are distally displaced where the needle holder can be displaced distally, but not proximally.
Medicament delivery devices
A medicament delivery device is disclosed, comprising a cartridge assembly that comprises a cartridge having a medicament chamber for containing a medicament, a sealing element for sealing a distal end of the medicament chamber and a coupling element attached to the cartridge. The device also includes a sealing element release member, a cannula for delivery of the medicament, and a removable cap. The device is switchable from a starting configuration in which the release member is spaced from the sealing element to an activated configuration in which the release member cooperates with the sealing element to connect the medicament chamber to the cannula. A proximal end of the release member is sealed in a release member chamber defined in part by, the sealing element and in part by the coupling element.
Injector device
An injector device includes a housing having a slot with a locking portion and a needle unit that has a needle and a slot engagement portion that extends through the slot in the housing to an external side of the housing. The needle unit is movably mounted in the housing such that movement of the needle unit relative to the housing is restricted by the slot. The injector device also includes a cartridge that is mounted in the housing, the cartridge having a reservoir for medicament. Prior to use of the injector device, the reservoir is sealed from the needle. The slot in the housing is arranged such that the needle unit can be rotated to move the slot engagement portion out of the locking portion such that the needle unit can be moved into engagement with the cartridge to place the needle in fluid communication with the reservoir.
Cartridge carrier assembly
A cartridge carrier assembly for a medicament delivery device comprises a cartridge carrier adapted to receive a cartridge defining a cavity containing a dose of a medicament, a needle hub being part of the cartridge carrier or coupled to the cartridge carrier such that the needle hub is fixed relative to the cartridge carrier, the needle hub adapted to receive a distal end or part of the cartridge, an injection needle having a tipped proximal needle section adapted to pierce a sealing element distally arranged on the cartridge, and a removable needle cap attachable to a distal end of the cartridge carrier. The needle hub comprises a cartridge retention feature adapted to abut the cartridge or a part thereof to limit axial movement of the cartridge in the distal direction such that the proximal needle section is spaced from the sealing element.
Activating mechanism for a medicament delivery device and medicament delivery device
The disclosure relates to an activating mechanism for a medicament delivery device, wherein the activating mechanism includes a cartridge containing a dosage of a medicament, a cartridge carrier holding the cartridge and comprising a distal carrier section, a hollow injection needle arranged within a distal end of the cartridge carrier comprising an inner needle section targeted inside the cartridge carrier, whereby the inner needle section is spaced from the cartridge in a distal direction (D) when the medicament delivery device is in an initial position (P1), a removable needle cap to cover and seal an outer needle section of the injection needle that is targeted outside the cartridge carrier.
