Determination of a dose set and delivered in a medication delivery device
Sensing systems are disclosed for determining the relative rotational movements of members of a medication delivery device which are proportional to the amount of a dose set and delivered by the medication delivery device. The sensing system comprises a first sensor component secured to a first member and a second sensor component secured to a second member. During dose setting, the second member is coupled to a third member which rotates relative to the first member in proportion to the dose set. During dose delivery, the second member is coupled to a fourth member which rotates relative to the first member in proportion to the dose delivered. The sensing system separately detects the relative rotational positions of the first and second sensor components during dose setting and dose delivery, and provides outputs used to determine the amounts of the set and delivered doses. The sensing system outputs this information to a controller which determines the amount of the dose set and delivered. Related medication delivery devices and methods are also disclosed.
PEN NEEDLE REMOVAL DEVICE FOR A DRUG DELIVERY DEVICE
A removal device (121, 221) for removing and disposing of a pen needle (113, 213) connectable to a drug delivery device (111, 211) includes a body (123, 223) having a cavity (141, 241) for receiving the pen needle of the drug delivery device such that a patient end (116, 216) of a needle (115, 215) of the pen needle is covered by the body. An ejector (151, 251) is movably connected to the body (123, 223) for engaging the received pen needle (113, 213) and selectively ejecting the engaged pen needle from the body. The pen needle (113, 213) is securely retained within the removal device (121, 221) without exposing the needle (115, 215) of the pen needle until the pen needle (113, 213) can be properly disposed of, such as in a sharps container, thereby substantially preventing an accidental needle stick.
Moving Basal Engine For A Fluid Delivery Device
A fluid delivery device comprises a fluid reservoir for containing medicament. The fluid reservoir is sealed proximate one end with a sliding seal piston. A delivery path is configured to fluidly couple the fluid reservoir and a patient wearing the fluid delivery device. A basal engine mechanism is configured to directly or indirectly move the sliding seal piston in the fluid reservoir at a controlled basal rate. A bolus mechanism configured to move the basal engine relative to the fluid reservoir and directly or indirectly move the sliding seal piston in the fluid reservoir a discrete bolus amount at a time.
SENSOR FOR USE WITH A DRUG DELIVERY DEVICE
An optical decoding system including an optical sensor integral with or attachable to a housing of a drug delivery device and configured to be directed at first and second rotatable components of a dose setting and dispensing mechanism of the drug delivery device and a processor configured to: (i) cause the optical sensor to capture images of the first and second rotatable components at least at the beginning and end of a medicament dose dispensing process; (ii) determine a rotational position of both the first and second rotatable components in each of the captured images; and (iii) determine from the rotational positions of the first and second rotatable components an amount of medicament delivered by the dose setting and dispensing mechanism of the drug delivery device.
Power Unit for Drug Delivery Device
The present invention provides a power unit (1) for a drug delivery device as well as methods for providing and mounting the power unit (1) in the drug delivery device. The power unit (1) comprises a first interface member (30) extending along a reference axis and comprising a hollow body (31) and a first engagement structure (35), a second interface member (10) comprising a tubular structure (11) extending at least partially through the hollow body (31) and having a skirt (12), and a second engagement structure (14) configured for releasable engagement with the first engagement structure (35), and a torsion spring (20) comprising a first end portion (23) being attached to the first interface member (30) and a second end portion (22) being attached to the second interface member (10), the torsion spring (20) being pre-strained to induce a relative rotational motion between the first interface member (30) and the second interface member (10). The first interface member (30) and the second interface member (10) are configured for relative motion along the reference axis from a first relative axial position in which the first engagement structure (35) and the second engagement structure (14) are engaged to prevent the relative rotational motion between the first interface member (30) and the second interface member (10) to a second relative axial position in which the first engagement structure (35) and the second engagement structure (14) are disengaged. In the first relative axial position of the first interface member (30) and the second interface member (10) the torsion spring (20) is accommodated in a user inaccessible space (39) defined by the hollow body (31) and the skirt (12).
Drug delivery device with unidirectional coupling
A drug delivery device is provided having a housing, a lead screw that is rotatably fixed with respect to the housing during dose setting and during dose delivery and that is axially moveable in a delivery direction relative to the housing for dose delivery, a number sleeve threadedly engaged with the housing to be screwable relative to the housing, and a dial link which is axially moveable and rotatable with respect to the housing for dose setting and which is prevented from rotation with respect to the housing for dose delivery. The dial link is rotatably fixed with the number sleeve when the dial link and the number sleeve are in a first arrangement, and the number sleeve and the dial link are rotatable with respect to one another when the dial link and the number sleeve are in a second arrangement.
Medicament delivery device
A medicament delivery device is provided. The medicament delivery device may include, among other features, a cartridge holder mounted in a housing and configured to receive a cartridge containing a medicament. The device may also include an outer cap detachably connected to the housing, and a coupling mechanism configured to connect the outer cap to an injection needle holder to which an injection needle is fixed. The coupling mechanism may include a rotatable member configured to be connected to an injection needle holder. The coupling mechanism may also be threadedly engaged with, and rotatable to, the outer cap. The configuration of the device may allow for quicker and more efficient delivery of medicament.
Medicament delivery device and methods for delivering drugs to infants and children
A method of delivering epinephrine includes placing a distal end surface of a medical injector into contact with a target location of a patient. The medical injector includes a housing, an energy storage member, and a medicament container containing a dose of epinephrine effective for administration to the patient experiencing anaphylaxis and having a weight of less than 15 kg. The medicament container is coupled to a needle. The medical injector is actuated such that the energy storage member produces a force to move the needle from a first needle position to a second needle position. A distal tip of the needle extends from the distal end surface by a distance of between 7 millimeters and 8 millimeters when the needle is in the second needle position. A portion of the force is exerted to expel the dose of epinephrine when the needle is in the second position.
