Systems and methods for measuring the fill level of sharps in sharps containers are described. The system includes sensors for detecting a fill level in a sharps container and communications systems for reporting a sharps container fill status to local personnel through portable computing devices and central monitoring systems. The systems and methods are designed to improve deployment and collection of the sharps containers and their contents.

The outer surface defines a lock passageway separate from the opening. The system further includes a bracket adapted to be secured to a fixed surface and a locking assembly coupled to the bracket and adapted to releasably secure the waste receiver to the fixed surface. The locking assembly includes a lock housing sized to be removably positioned at least partially within the lock passageway.

The vacuuming apparatus includes a discharge port located at the suction end and in gaseous communication with a container, such as a used sharps container. The vacuuming apparatus includes a fan, that when operated, is configured to move air from the open nozzle end to the suction end and into the container such that the sharps waste may be moved in an airstream from a surface proximate to the open nozzle end into the container.

A user-separable section (26) with a finger pull tab (32) is defined by a reduced-thickness membrane (24), which functions as a tear line to allow that section (26) to at least partially separate from the proximal cover (22). A living hinge (27) may be provided to keep the user-separable section (26) from completely separating from the proximal cover (22). The finger pull tab (32) may be configured to enable re-covering of a pen needle (30) that is still within the outer cover (10).
