The disclosed devices and methods provide for the minimization of fluid extravasation during use of infusion catheters such as peripherally inserted central catheters and central venous catheters. The anti-extravasation catheter allows a surgeon to drain fluids from soft tissue surrounding an infusion site while also providing fluid inflow to a patient.

Methods and devices for non-invasive cerebral and systemic cooling alternating liquid mist/gas for induction and gas for maintenance

Devices for cerebral and systemic cooling via a patient's nasopharyngeal cavity are described. Cooling assemblies include at least one elongate tubular member having first and second lumens, a source of liquid coolant, a gas source communicating with the first lumen, and a switch for alternately connecting the liquid coolant source to the second lumen. The first lumen transports a compressed gas and the second lumen transports a volatile liquid. The pressurized fluid may be a perfluorocarbon. The perfluorocarbon may be perfluorohexane, perfluoropentane, or 2-methyl-perfluoropentane. The gas may be air, oxygen, or a combination.

Device, system and methods for measurement of pressures in the urinary tract
10542924 · 2020-01-28 · ·

A catheter for measuring pressure in the urinary tract of a patient includes a catheter body having a proximal and distal end. A plurality of lumens is formed in the catheter body, and an adaptor is coupled to the proximal end of the catheter body. The adaptor includes a port for each lumen. A first pressure sensor, typically including a balloon, is fluidically coupled to a first lumen and is configured and positioned to measure pressure in a urethra of the patient. A second pressure sensor, also typically including a balloon, is fluidically coupled to a second lumen and is configured and positioned on the catheter body to measure pressure in a bladder of the patient. An expandable retention member, which may be coupled to a third lumen, is positioned on the catheter body between the first and second expandable pressure sensors so that the catheter body may be retained at a selected location in the urinary tract to properly position the fluid pressure sensors in the bladder and urethra, respectively.

METHOD OF TREATING OR ALLEVIATING ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

The present invention provides a method of treating or alleviating erectile dysfunction in a patient. Multiple electrodes are placed within a segment of the internal iliac artery of the patient and against blood vessel wall of the internal iliac artery. Radiofrequency energy is released through at least one of the multiple electrodes to nearby tissues, so as to increase the temperature of the nearby tissues and induce a thermal alteration of the nearby tissues.

Controllable Expandable Catheter

Elongate medical devices with an expandable structure including elongated splines and a distal hub. An elongate medical device includes a handle including a control mechanism, a catheter shaft, an expandable structure including elongated splines and a distal hub, wherein each of the elongated splines includes a shape memory material and an interactive element, wherein each of the elongated splines includes a respective spline proximal end and a spline distal end, wherein each of the spline proximal ends is connected to the catheter shaft distal end, and wherein each of the spline distal ends is connected to the distal hub, and a deflection control member connected to the distal hub, wherein the control mechanism is drivingly coupled to the distal hub via the deflection control member and operable to selectively vary a position of the distal hub relative to the catheter shaft distal end to selectively vary an amount of expansion of the expandable structure, wherein a shape of the expandable structure is produced via a combination of the shape memory material and the position of the distal hub relative to the catheter distal end.

The present disclosure concerns embodiments of multi-lumen cannulae that can be used in various different medical procedures. The multi-lumen cannulae can comprise an elongated body comprising multiple different ports that connect to various different sidewall lumens contained within the elongated body. The multi-lumen cannulae can also comprise a central lumen that extends through the entire elongated body and can be fluidly connected to the various different sidewall lumens. The multi-lumen cannulae can further comprise two balloons on an exterior of the elongated body, which can be used to isolate a right atrium of a patient's heart.

CATHETER DEVICE AND METHOD FOR SELECTIVE OCCLUSION OF ARTERIES OF THE DESCENDING AORTA OR ILIAC VASCULATURE
20240090901 · 2024-03-21 ·

An improved catheter device for selectively isolating and occluding a portion of the descending aorta and/or the iliac vasculature of a patient, including a guiding or isolating component on a distal end of an elongate hollow catheter shaft which is advanceable though the vascular system of the patient. The catheter shaft has a proximal portion that extends out from the patient and a distal portion adapted to be disposed within the vasculature of the patient. The guiding or isolating component as well as a plurality of expandable members are disposed on the distal portion. A number of expandable members are positioned on the catheter with dimensions and configured so that when expanded it rests within a target artery or vasculature to occlude blood flow. Other expandable members may be spaced apart from the isolating or fixation member and configured to selectively isolate and occlude blood flow through different portions of target arteries and other vasculature.

MULTI-PURPOSE MEDICAL DEVICE FOR STREAMLINED BILIARY AND OTHER INTERVENTIONS.
20240058024 · 2024-02-22 ·

The present invention relates to a methodology of, and an apparatus for, performing multiple interventions within the biliary tree without requiring multiple catheter exchanges. The device consists of a flexible elongate tube, introduced through an endoscope, having a proximal end towards the operator and a distal end directed towards a body lumen. The exposed part of an electrosurgical cutting wire near the distal end is used to cut the sphincter of Oddi. Two lumens extend from the proximal to the distal end, one configured to accept a guidewire, and the other to allow contrast injection. In some renderings, a single lumen may serve both functions. Another lumen extends from the proximal end to a dilator balloon housed distally on the catheter to further widen the biliary orifice. An additional lumen extends from the proximal end to an extractor balloon near the distal end of the catheter for stone extraction.
